Design 1 splitter installed
#41

I went with a semi gloss black splitter on my '92 midnight blue metalic coupe with a black(appears to be semi gloss) rear spoiler. Kinda hard to tell in the pic since everything is so dark but, as discussed earlier, it really balances the car. Planning on heading to Hershey this weekend. Oh Yeah, just addded the Euro front signals tonight! really cleans it up almost looks like a different car!

Thanks Rap! It was great to meet you in person and all the other 968 owners/forum folks that made it to Hershey. I was sorry to hear Flash could not make it due to plane problems. I hope he at least gets a refund and heartfelt and appology from the airline carrier(and for his troubles, I really hope he took them for a snack and free drink while he was waiting for the rest of the plane to board while sitting in first class!)

Back on topic, I could not be happier with the splitter quality and ease of installation. Due to my old batwing (front apron) being beat up over the past 20 years, it felt rather flimsy when I took it off due to a split and detached hanger. The new splitter appears to hold the soft bumper better at the corners and ties in solid with my middle pan. As for prepping it, I just had to fill in a few mold derived pin holes, sand, prime, drill, sand, clean, tack and then paint. The only thing I should have done was to have found a paint that can repell bugs and pollen(it's one of the four searsons in NEPA and sometimes comes twice a year). I hought the faster I drive the more likely they would come off! Evidently, you just get more! Next I'll have to find som twisty roads and see if I can use G-forces to shake them off......

i did manage to get a full refund, though it will take 3 business days to get it. (i'm continually annoyed that they can take our money right away, but won't refund it right away)

very happy to hear about the ease of installation et all. i love it when a plan works out.

lol - i'm sure the "pundits" saw them on the cars, and i wonder what the naysayers are saying now.................

So it took a little longer than it should which proves these things are hand built

The 3 holes for the rad bolts on my car were about 5mm too far forward so I had to elongate them. I loosened the middle pan but there was no lining up, no enough slop. I also had two fonder linders that had nowhere to screw to as they used to bolt to the old batwing (front apron). I secured them at the top and left the 3 bottom screws off as all seemed fairly stiff at that point.

For those of you who don't like wrist cramps I set my drill to almost NO torque and used that to get the 11 Philips head screws to within a 1/2 cm or so in prep for hand tightening.

I painted the spiltter with a black paint bomb for this season as I wanted on the road TODAY

I will pull it in the winter and hae it painted to match.

Scraped my first driveway today, and I live on a flat street . That will teach me to lower to the M030 spec.

For reference, I have those liners and "additional" screw points as well.

which it says in the instructions that you would have to drill in place, as they vary too much from car to car to have predrilled.

Picked up my car with the newly installed splitter and wow. The lines from the front just seem different. Nice integration with the side rockers. Stuart gave me a solid recommendation for this little 2 bay garage in bumfu--. You wouldn't stop at this place. Looks like a typical old gas station. No pumps here now! Showed it to the friend I purchased the car from, a total stock guy, and he was just totally impressed . Course now the car needs a major detail! Lol

Installed a couple of weeks ago, painted according to the right code, but I'm not happy yet.

Splitter still looks great though.

Pinball sharp. I drove the white one the other day, beautiful fall day. I scraped the bloody thing 4 times. Such a sickening sound. Like a Timex watch though. Getting ready to put one one the red car.

Can u tell me the difference between this one and the one from AIR? From a performance stand point it does help keep the front end down to hmake the cat feel more planted at speeds north of 80?

they both provide aerodynamic improvement and downforce. the AIR unit will flex at higher speeds, where as the design of the D1R unit would resist that.

the AIR unit does not have the "wraparound" design that the D1R unit has, which helps prevent it from being destroyed with the slightest bump or scrape. many people have destroyed the AIR unit, whereas many people have smacked the D1R unit and it has survived. this feature is exactly why i designed it. i had ruined the polyurethane splitter from driveway bumps, and knew about the shattering that fiberglass lip spoilers were notorious for. i wanted something that would last. i've bashed mine in dips in the road at fairly high speeds, and still it is intact. it probably won't survive a direct frontal hit, but it does pretty well everywhere else. i'm quite proud of how well it has done. i think i have at least 100 of them out there now.

also, the AIR unit sticks out on the sides a bit, whereas the D1R unit is more contoured to work with the body lines
