Dealer quoted me $105 for heater control valve
#1

I asked him twice if he was sure because I can't believe this piece of plastic engineering could cost this much...even from Porsche. Does anyone know of an alternate cheaper source for this part?

That price must also include labor...for doing the job 3 or 4 times at shop rates...plus a few coffee breaks built in. I paid though the nose for my recent purchase of one and it was under $50 I think (for what should be a $12 part). There are metal alternatives "out there" somewhere. You might check the archives, do a search, etc.

Somebody mentioned an Audi part as a replacement. That's the one which is metal rather than plastic.

Motorsports of Salt Lake City sells an all metal unit for the 928...I think it's the same unit as for the 968. They have a web site. Dave Lomas is the guy I talk with but he's a 928 enthusiast. He has a stable mate who is into 968s. BTW, he has a rebuilt 968 head on hand with new cams.

At Autozone ask for #74671 Heater Valve. It could be metal or plastic. Ask around to the different autozones in your area and you should be able to find one that's metal. It's the valve for an Audi.

eBay $19.95 + 4 S&H all the time... at that price, I always keep a spare around since we have 3 of these cars in the household... along with spare DME replay(s), exhaust, headers, switches, other relays, trim, etc. etc. etc..... turning into a spare parts depot!

The HCV is easy to change on the 968 - simple tools and a few minutes. One of the easiest things to R&R on the car. The all metal version is probably the way to go, as these seem to fail due to heat soak, being so close to the exhaust header.
