Heater Valve Question,,,and While We're At It.....
#1

So I got around to installing all the parts today.  Lots of them.  When I removed the heater Valve, I realized the nipples on the original are larger than my replacement.  The replacement is the one recommended by members here.  I think it went to an older Dodge truck.  So do you guys just crank down on the clamps, or do you buy step down hoses?

On an angrier side!!!!!!!!!!!  3 of the valve cover bolt heads were stripped,  After 3 hours and some non-PG words, they're all out.  Cam pad and sprocket inspection was fine.  But now I want to buy a new set of bolts.  Couldn't find them at FCP Euro, so who has them.  I openly admit my search skillz suck!!  Thanx....

Brian

Don't just crank the clamp down, that is just an invitation to a leak. I took a short section of the diameter that fit the valve and used it as a sleeve under the original hose. It's a tight fit, so I used some black weatherstrip glue to slide them together, then I cranked the clamp down.

Aha!  The secrets are disclosed.  I'll figure this out.  If I could buy a short step down hose that would be ideal, but I think that's probably whistling in the wind!

I looked, nothing in my local store would work. I don't doubt that there is one out there, but using a short section as a sleeve worked fine. We are only talking 16psi here, so it doesn't have to hold a lot of pressure, it just has to do it without leaking.

Yeah, I've been thinking about this since your last post.  I think I'll take both valves and the 2 hoses down to my auto parts store an see if they have a smaller hose I can use as you said.  And hopefully they can sell me new hoses to replace my old ones.  Thanx again.

you could always just get the right valve.  i've never liked the idea of having to screw around and adapt a part, particularly where it has to contain pressure

I did what you said, and it worked out perfectly.  I used black gasket maker to adhere the two hoses.  I have a little more work to do before I fill the coolant system and check it out, but I'm optimistic.  Thanx again for the heads up!
