Dash conditioning?
#1

Seems like I have a ton of questions regarding the new 968, and here is one more. I have a good routine for keeping my car clean. I use a CA duster after every drive (100 miles round trip to work), Zymol wax and Adam's Detail Spray on the outside. On the inside, I found the highly regarded Leather CPR and I typically use 303 on the Vinyl. Is there something better for Vinyl use? I'm specifically thinking of the dash. My car seems to have been garaged most of its life but I noticed that the dash Vinyl could stand some more protection. Any recommendations or suggestions?

Thanks!

I currently have a crap-load of Lexol Vinylex, but I have heard repeatedly that 303 Aerospace protectant is the stuff to use for interior vinyl. I will probably be buying some 303 soon for the 968, and relegate the Vinylex to the daily drivers.

ditto on the 303. !! I wish the PO would have used it on the door panel sills, the grey might not have taken on a brownish tint .. lucky the dash was in perfect shape when I got the car so I have, and continue to treat it with 303 every three months or so which may be overkill, ( once or twice a year would probably suffice ) but I can't say enough good things about that stuff. my hot tub cover is vinyl, is always exposed to the sun and after five years of periodic 303 applications it still looks like new, as opposed to the previous one which I treated with other vinyl and leather conditioners, but to no avail <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/dry.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> ) looked like crap after two years - completely faded and cracked..

I like 303 as well, especially for the dash and tops of the door panels, mostly because of it's UV protection. However, I do have another favorite product for use on vinyl and rubber. It's from a local (to me) lady, although, last I heard, she was moving. Her name is Peggy Becker. Her web site is beckerscarcare.com and she does ship her products and takes PayPal. It's called "Vinyl, Rubber Conditioner and Sealant". For those of you who've used Mother's "Back to Black", Peggy's stuff is like Back to Black on steroids - much thicker and lasts longer, etc. You don't have to use very much, it's not greasy and dries quickly. You actually put it on, let it soak in, and then buff it off with a micofiber towel. The shine is perfect...not too glossy, not to matte. I use it on my front and rear bumperettes, seat backs, center console lid, and all exterior rubber and trim.

I have been looking for 303 protectant and could not find it locally, so I picked up some Mothers protectant at a car show and am very impressed with it. Nice flat finish and very nice cherry smell. ai think I just switched,

I use Vinylex because of its UV protection, anti-static properties that keeps dust off and the deep lustre it imparts on the vinyl. It takes several applications to remove other products like silicones if they have been used which, in the interim, may result in some haziness. Only issue with Vinylex is that it is a tad shiny, although I have not found it a problem in the 968. I may try 303 for a comparison.

1Z Einszett Cockpit Premium Interior Plastic Cleaner. I have used vinylex, 303, meguiar's marine vinyl protectant and this stuff is my favorite b/c it doesn't leave a shiny finish. It's purpose is to lightly clean and protect but to leave a factory finish to the dash. It really works well without that super shiny finish.
