discoloured area on dash
#1

I'm having a lot of trouble getting this particular spot on my dash clean (which otherwise has come out looking really nice). So far I've tried a few different things including an APC, rubbing alcohol, household cleaner with a degreaser, and 303 Aerospace. I've used both a brush and cloth when trying these things but nothing is making a dent. When I look really closely at the area there it seems to be covered in a white residue. I'm not sure what used to sit there. Does anyone have any suggestions, or any techniques worth trying?

Tom Brady wasn't at your house was he? Maybe deflating the dash?

Or try cockpit spray.

I tried all the sprays. I ended up having to have the side panels replaced with new material. The cause of it was adhesive from the back bleeding thru.

I think the only way to fix the problem is to paint the dash with good quality vinyl paint.

As an alternative you can just replace it as RHD dashes are easy (and cheap) to find in good condition. I have at least three lying around myself...

It looks like a sticker was on there. I agree with the vinyl paint as there is nothing going to fix that.

you could go crazy and remove the dash and recover with leather.......................................

Thanks again for the suggestions. I guess with vinyl paint I would need to repaint the whole dash to get a nice finish?

Replacing the whole dash isn't a bad idea either, as I have a few small cracks up by the air vents. Not sure how easy it will be to source one for a decent price in little ol' New Zealand. Is replacing the dash a difficult job?

Removing and installing the dash seems to be the tough part. Recovering it with leather shouldn't be that bad of a job. Just need to be meticulous.

Thanks. That's a couple of good options to explore. I wonder if a plastic dye product would work, I've read good things about the stuff Wurth makes.

I am affraid that painting is not going to solve the problem completly .

Looks like the texture is different and there is a change that is wil show thru the paint , painting is all about preparing the surface before the paint it self .

I had similair thing with different car , and i ended up replacing the dash , even after painting .

By the way my car had partial leather, so the side panels that were replaced were Vinyl not leather. I do  no know if the dash is leather or Vinyl. I had to replace my side panels because of the adhesive bleeding thru to the top surface, causing a brown spot. I replaced both sides using Porsche Vinyl so it matches perfectly.
