Cutting clockspring wires
#1

So I have a new Momo Jet wheel and hub ready to go on but I find the horn connector is on the steering wheel and not the steering column side. No problem, search the forum and find I need a 928 part to make it all work - ordered. That was easy. But I can't decide how to sever the clockspring wires as they are permanently attached and there is very little slack in the harness. Suggestions from the entourage?

I edited post to add a picture of the wheel.

Once you pull the dash trim in the area you will be able to access the plugs and remove. An hour's worth of work for a 2 minute job...

Arggg. Does that mean removing the turn signal stalk and the black silicon surround that encases the stalk? I had to cut it to remove it once before as it wouldn't stretch over the signal/cruise arms. Or can one get at it from under the dash or behind the gauge cluster?

The wires from the clockspring are fed beneath the turn signal assembly. Take the black plastic cover off (4 screws) that surrounds the clockspring and you'll easily be able to remove the clockspring wires. You should be able to undo the plugs from below the dash.

Well I finally got the 928 horn contact and it seems to fit perfectly onto a hole in the turn signal stalk; lines up perfectly. But, the 2.5 cm copper pin goes to the back of the stalk where it doesn't seem to connect to anything inside the stalk. I have no way to get back there to put 12V on the pin from the horn connector as there is a piece of metal covering that part of the stalk. Do I have to pull the stalk to wire up the horn - maybe? Ideas?

To quote Emily Litella - "Never mind"

I pulled the stalk, easy, one circlip. Pulled off the connect and found the 12V horn wire already there. I just didn't have the ignition all the way to the last knotch and touching real ground. Only the steering column is ground, the aluminum plate in the stalk assy floats so no ground there <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/blush.png" class="smilie" alt="" />
