I think we are working on the same projects! Mine look almost identical. I don't have any lights mounted so I took a digital picture of a headlight, laminated it, and mounted it behind the cover. I'll post some pictures tonight.

Here are some pics of my "headlights". I don't need any lights until the enduros this fall so instead of ugly holes I made some headlights - Nascar style. I printed digital pictures of a headlight, laminated them at kinkos and then mounted them behind the plexiglass covers.

I haven't got that far yet. I'm starting with a formed and cut window. Currently it is just resting on the frame. I plan to mechanically fasten it with bolts/nuts.



Did you use flat stock to make the window or did you buy a preformed piece? Did you use glue or bolts or both? Just curious how you did yours.

We've ordered a 3/16" (5mm) pre-formed rear hatch piece by Spektr Products...we'll use a frame from a 944.



I got a Turbo rear wing, too.



We're also getting a 3/16" windshield, too, since I broke the original windshield when I took out the front seats.

The weight for PCA club racing is ~3080...what series are you guys racing in that you are allowed unlimited lower weight?

If you refer to how I smashed the windshield, well let me tell you of some of my special talents!



We were taking out the roll bar, at the same time, and had the passenger seat slid all the way forward...then fell against the seat which snapped the seat back, and it slapped into the windshield giving a beautiful spider web design to the glass.



Hopefully, this is a skill I won't have to maintain and re-use in the future!

wow - i've banged into my windshield before, but never broken it - fluke thing i'm sure - by the way, the windshield landed safely to the guy i gave it to, and shipping was something like 90 bucks - good thing you didn't take it though - just found out that cab windshields are a lot shorter than hardtop windshields (see windshield thread)

We're gutting the doors now...What did you all use for windows?



That is, who did you get your Lexan windows from?



Eric, didn't you say that you use the channels from the original window for your Lexan replacements? Can you tell me again about that.

I have lexan door windows from GT-Racing but they could easily be made by cutting flat stock lexan to the same shape as the stock glass. They slide up and down in the stock channels and can be removed completely for racing. To keep them up, the upper seal does a pretty good job, but I also drilled a hole thru the window channel (just below the bottom of the window in the raised position) and stick a piece of coat hanger thru the hole to keep the window from sliding down. Pretty low tech but it works well.

Thanks for the lead to GT racing...I called up and ordered the Lexan today.



Hank sais that he has a very simple and graceful solution to keeping the windows up. He has taken the approach from the 911R and fashioned pieces of leather strapping that attach to the bottom of the window. You lift the window to the height you want, and then snap it to a button he also supplies...$40 for the setup.



I'll let you know how it works out.

Hi Jason,



Have you kept the heater?



If not how do you envisage you will blank off the aperture?



Anybody elses solutions or thoughts on this matter would be appreciated.



Also, is it best to blank off the heater pipes in the cabin or in the engine bay?



Thoughts anyone?

We removed the heater, as well.



My mechanic used a piece of metal to seal the hole at the engine bay.



I'm pretty sure the pipes were removed in the engine bay also.



With the power steering deleted, I've got fewer things to worry about. I really believe in keeping it simple, when possible.



We gave up on the glue...I'm putting light weight carpeting in. It was too much for me to deal with. I will probably cover the rear with a piece of flat metal, and thereby not have the spare tire well, leaving the rear a little cleaner looking.

Graham,



I've got a piece of metal sheet metal covering the hole left by the heater core. You can just see it in the back of this picture.

   

All the plumbing thru the firewall can be removed. I used rubber plugs (like corks) to plug the holes. I just pushed them into the rubber sleeves the pipes used to pass thru.
