contemplating holding a "tech day"
#1

in advance of the 6th Annual Paso Robles Wine Run (http://www.968forums.com/index.php?showtopic=6622), i am contemplating holding a "tech day"

we could go through everybody's cars and see the state of things, and make sure everything is up to snuff - we could do minor repairs and stuff, install some toys, and generally give everything a once-over - i have a really good tech sheet and checklist, and we would get them all up in the air so we could really get a good look - we could take a good look at the suspensions, brakes, yada yada, and make sure we have no issues on the run

there will be donuts and coffee upon arrival, and we'll do a lunch and maybe a dinner too (depending on how late we run)

lol - before anybody asks, no, this isn't a chance to come over for a clutch job, belt job, or install new koni struts -

no, this is not the "detail day" i traditionally hold - i'm going to do that one after we get back - yes, we could do some work in that area, but i want to do the big detail day as a dedicated event - might even have sponsors for that one too

i'm thinking march 14 or 21 - how does that work? that would then give everyone enough time to get the big things we find fixed before the run

Ya know I'll be there. I am bidding on my March schedule now, so the sooner a date is set, the easier it will be for me to clear that day.

Flash,

That is a very generous offer. I would like to participate. Main focus would be front suspension, I hear a clunk once in a while, and when I had my wheels aligned the tech said there was fluid that had leaked out of the front shocks. Worried there could be some "offroad adventure" leftovers. It drives well, you may recall the Ortega Hwy run it was fine, but I still have this nagging sensation that all is not as firm as it could be. I've inspected here and there, just not so experienced. I had been thinking about trying to swing by your place at some time to see if you would drive my car and give some feedback (I'm passing by on occasion to LA). So this would be a very nice event.

Either of those March days is fine with me.

Maybe someone could help me install this as well

I assume this event, if it takes place, will be webcast - right?

hmmm - i suppose anything is possible, though i don't have any of the gear to do that - i just did a 7 camera live webcast, and it was pretty nutty

Not to worry - if I can't share in the rib-tickling and back-slapping, I'm not going to spend all day in front of this tiny computer screen. Have fun, think of us here on the right coast, and maybe another time.

Flash, I am still planning to show up, the 14th would be fine. Looking forward to it, certainly will help with the "web cam" idea if that is something practical, I'll bring my camera as well.

A web cam of this event would elevate this forum to a whole new level. I'm sure it would be a great way for the broad 968 community to learn a lot about our cars that we're all probably overlooking. Thanks for considering it - here's hoping you can pull it off.

Hey Flash, well... ah... so.... I can see that my prior message, about camera and helping to set it up, was not written real clearly, sorry if it was overly exuberant. Called just now, but no answer. What I meant was "bring my digital still picture camera", and no I don't have any experience setting up web cams. I just generally meant I would help as an "assistant" where I could. Did 15 minutes of reading on the subject, and I guess all we would need is a web cam itself, some SW that might come with the camera, and of course the internet connection. Most likely if you have wifi in your place, we just need to set up a laptop outside in the garage, with the camera connected, perhaps on a good tripod (which i have), figure out a web cam web site/service, and then configure everything.

should be a good turn out and a fun day - so far we have ron, dan, jeff, and roland - should be able to get travis over here too - i haven't even sent out the emails yet alerting everyone to this, but we definitely want to get everyone teched before that event, and i won't have another chance between now and then
