I agree, it's great to see these cars out on the track.

Quote:Are there any class mods that are allowed that you have not made to your car that would have allowed a NA 968 to run with the well developed EVOs, SRT4s, Civics...?

The only area where the car has a deficit is in horsepower. I think with a built engine the car would be right at the front. I'm still running the original unopened engine, which now has a LOT of track miles on it. A fresh, blueprinted engine with the head shaved for max compression and proper engine tuning would be a big improvement. Unfortunately, my budget is too small for major engine work.

Quote:What power do the hondas run then?

I don't know exactly, but they are far from stock. Different cars are allowed to prep to different levels in attempt to equalize the field. The 968 is supposed to be stock from throttle body to exhaust port.

Quote:By the way, don't suppose you want to sell your endurance lights now you've had to revert to stock due to class
Nope, I justed added the lights back to temporarily help get the car up to minimum weight.

No worries Eric, I was just being cheeky (those lights are well cool, make it look like a real endurance racer!)

Can't wait for the next race!

Keep up the posts

P.S. Nearly there now on my car now - just diff and exterior paint job required then setup. Decided to go for a Quaife ATB afterall

I have had no complaints or issues with my Quaife. I think you'll be happy with it.

The USTCC has just annouced it is racing with the American LeMans Series (ALMS) at Portland on July 21-23. Now I need to figure how to pay for that one.

Eric,

Thanks for posting the Video and Great Job with the race, Congratulations on the Rookie Award. I get over to Portland fairly often because my wife's from there. Please let us know when your racing there again and I'll try to get out to the track.

I've also driven the track once in a different car, and you certainly were getting everything out of the car. If I drive the track again, I'll watch your video to remind me of the lines.

Cheers,

Stephen Guy

BTW, you mentioned in a previous post that this event is one of the only events where a 968 can participate in, why is that? Too old? Too stock?

Also, when in august will you be going to Pacific Raceway? I'd love to come down and watch the fun!

The 968 can club race in many places but it is too old to be classed in most "Pro" series where more current models are preferred. Most have a 3-10 year limit and with the 968 last built in 95 it is no longer a current model. USTCC is more lenient and lets it slide a few more years. The 968 did race in the Motorola Cup (now morphed into Grand Am Cup) but it is long past its eligibility.

The Pacific Race is 8/19-20.

Best of luck anyways! If there are any furure events let me know, I'll do my best to come out and support the local 968s

Eric,

I just saw this video link at another site and thought you might enjoy seeing the start of your race from another driver's perpective. This car appears to be gridded about 3 rows behind you on the outside. You only get brief glimpses of your car before you are gone out of the picture but I think it will make you appreciate your good qualifying positon. Check it out here: http://tcmotorsports.net/videos/USTCC_Po..._Start.wmv

Thanks for the link Mike. I had seen Carlo's video on the local BMW forum. You never quite forget that there is a mass of cars behind you - so don't screw up. I'm sure Toby G. in the orange BMW had visions of disaster when he spun at the front of the field. He was lucky to get away unscathed. BTW, they changed the engine in that BMW between qualifying and the race on Saturday. That was impressive.

Great job Erik!!!

Love the white wheels. The RS Barn graphics are pretty cool also, but I'm biased

Get those kids to work to help pay for a fresh motor. Ha Ha

Thanks Pete. The car does need some more RSBarn goodness! I'm definitely down on power to the front runners, but an engine built to limits of the rules would take the car to the front.

I ran the ALMS support race with these guys this last Sunday in Portland. I wasn't there for qualifying so I started last (15th). At the start I passed a handful of cars into the chicane. I chased down a few more in the race and eventually finished fifth (again). It was a lot of fun catching and passing all those cars. I won the top rookie award again (or as my 4yr old says, hot rookie). I ended up using the same set of spec Hankooks as the champ car weekend. Unfortunately, they are not good for more than a couple heat cycles and as a result I really struggled with a lack of grip. I almost went off several times. The car got a lot of compliments from fans too.

I haven't download my video yet, but here is a competitor's video of Sunday's start. He's about mid-pack and I get in front of him for about half a lap at the start. Too bad I strung together a couple of sloppy corners while on camera. I blame the tires

Erik,

When is your next event?

Maybe the 968 community could fork up some cash to help with entry fees! Like $2-$5 bucks a head

I would match with dollars or product (your choice) to help further.

You can count me in on that donation idea! I would love to see you beat some of those "new" porsche's.
