compression #'s
#1

Ok... finally got around to doing a compression check on my 92 111,000 mile 968. Bought the car last August. #1cyl 185psi #2cyl 185psi #3 180psi and #4 205psi. Why is 4 so high or are the other cylinders to low. Maybe carbon buildup. Tested them with 2 different gauges with same results. Opinions please!

Did you disable the fuel system as well as the ignition when you were doing the test? If not, you could have loaded up cylinder #4 with fuel, and increased the number. I don't think one cylinder would build up that much more carbon than the others.

A leakdown test may be in order to give you a better idea of why the difference in the compression readings. Good luck, Bob Blackwell.

likely there is some sort of fluid in #4

could be fuel (as indicated above), or coolant, but more likely oil

Pulled the DME and fuel pump fuse. Should I have pulled something else? All the plugs looked great with a tannish white color. Actually all the plugs looked identical. Maybe by the time I tested #4 some how it got flooded with gas. Btw the car does'nt burn any oil! Thanks!
