i don't want anybody to think for a minute that there is any parallel or similarity between this car and some run of the mill college kid's japanese toy or some budget vw - so, no chance of clear lenses on this one - i think they just plain look cheap, like something you would pick up at pep boys in the cupholder isle and stick on the car - it's like unpainted carbon fiber, hubcaps, pinstripes, well, you get the idea



all that ranting aside, i do understand there is a safety issue too - going from one color to another, as clear lenses do when the lights come on, increases the likelihood of somebody noticing



but i still can't stand them - i must be too old

Hmm- my vw cost more than my 968. And, *gasp*, I run hubcaps in the Winter when I put on my snow tires! They are not the spinning kind though... <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/sad.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

I think what you are trying to say is that you really need to pay attention to the quality if you are going to do this. My vw has clear corners and side markers with yellow bulbs. They look subtle and they have held up very well over the course of the last 3.5 years. Definitely not ricer - certainly look OEM. I have seen others that have condensation in them because the lens separated, and I have seen yet others that melted! And I have seen the ricer rides that just like crap.



Personally, I doubt one would be able to source a clear, quality reproduction simply due to the extremely small market demand.

nope - i think they look cheap, no matter what car they are on - it's like the difference between a suit you get at mervyn's and an armani - i can see it 50 feet away



maybe it's just a case of having seen them one way for nearly 50 years, seeing them pop up on the lower end cars, and not being able to change my mind



by the way, it's not fair to compare today's price of the 968 with the price of the vw - compare in stickers, and you might think differently about what belongs where



lol - would you use sheepskin seatcovers or hang a pine tree air freshener from the mirror in your ferrari?

Not trying to argue here- just trying to provide useful info and advice to the guy would like to investigate getting clear corners made for the 968.



I have already stated my opinion on the clear corners so I think we all know where I stand with that...



If you think clears on any car look cheap, that's okay. But we should try to foster others' genuine efforts. Opinions and choices- all good in my book.

no no - no argument - just my perspective



although there is a certain parallel to what i would want to see some neighbor do to their house too - for example, i would not want to see a chevy nova project car up on blocks in his driveway, or let the paint peel off of the house, or let the lawn get overgrown - it's just not the kind of thing we want here (nose pointed straight up)



my point was that i think some things just lessen the overall impression, and staying clear (pardon the pun) of anything that would typically be found on a budget car should be the goal in order to maintain the loftier impressions of a porsche (yes, i know that even porsche has done things that goes against this philosophy in order to appeal to the younger masses)



clearly (pun again) i have turned into an old fart



i agree that the feasibility of getting them done, given the low volume, is also a huge issue - the investment would be high, and i don't think the sales volume will cover the costs, especially given the DOT certification needed to avoid fines



if somebody really wants clear lenses, i think they are going to have to live with the fitment of the 993 lens, but best of luck if somebody wants to try to get them made

Those are the ones from a ROW 993. They will fit, but they will not fit perfectly as they were designed for a 993, not a 968. There will be gaps. These are the ones which were discussed earlier in this thread.
