Calling all paint and auto detail experts for an opinion on this ;  for very small touch-up spots ( we’re talking about a max. 1/4” diameter paint which was chipped off  by flying debris  ) which needs some matching color touch up paint .- when it’s time to add the clear coat on top of the paint - I’m reading that clear <b>nail polish </b> is as good as, and as durable longevity-wise as the “real” clear coat , if not even better ..   Not that I’m a cheapskate but a tiny tube of clear coat is about $ 25 , whereas four times that amount of nail polish is about $ 3.00 … and my wife can use the rest of it .. 

 

Any thoughts on whether or not nail polish is really as good as clear coat for this kind of application ?

You can ask yourself, and your wife.....why do they have to repaint their nails every time????

Good point .  And did ask my wife how long that top coat lasts…she said that <b><i>IF </i></b>you wouldn’t wash your hands several times a day,  and also <b><i>IF </i></b>you wouldn’t use nail polish remover that coat would “probably” last about six months.  About the same amount of time when the clear coat bottle instructions call for a re-application.   But thought I’d check in here nonetheless ..

I think this calls for a check.

Ask your wife to apply nailpolish to one nail which she is not allowed to patch up the paintwork or cut the nail for 6 months.

 

This will give you an answer for sure

Haha, I wonder how that’ll go ..

 

Me :  hey honey, let’s actually test your theory about how long the nail polish might last 

Her :  and what is this for ?

Me :   a car
