New Headlights and associated trim pieces
#1

Well, after three attempts, I finally got my painter to complete the trim pieces to my satisfaction. The plastic pieces are very light and tend to blow away under pressure from the sprayer, so they posed a bit of a challenge and then to get enough paint to lay down at lower pressures, it tends to run. Anyway, I digress... Last night, I had some time to put everything together. New headlights, new trim pieces, new screws, new washers, new bolts down inside, etc. Also replaced all of the bulbs with Sylvania Silverstar for all three locations. What a nice effect! Here are some pics.

Looks great, Darryl! Where did you get the washers and other bits? Did you notice a big difference with the new bulbs?

Haven't driven the car yet!! ...and probably won't until next Wednesday. All of the parts were sourced from the dealer and everything is still available except the screws but they are a standard Wurth item that I had on the shelf. The headlamp enclosures themselves came from a Craigslist ad and were new in the box from a guy who used to work at Porsche in Atlanta...lucked out there as these are crazy expensive!

Would you mind sharing the BOSCH part number that is on the headlight lenses with me? I recently imported a 968 (from Japan, no less) and figured I need LHD pattern lenses. Now I wonder if there is a different US spec as opposed to European? Cause parts tend to be on the cheap side in the US this might be interesting for me.

Thanks in advance!

Almost forgot, great ride you have there

The actual headlight lenses (glass part) are the same part number for left and right - 944.631.912.01

The entire assembly (when purchased as a whole) has different part numbers for left and right:

944.631.923.00 - Left (Driver's)
944.631.924.00 - Right (Passenger's)

I can get the actual BOSCH number for you next day or so as I'll have to pull my spare and check it for you.

I have the USA and ROW PET. Headlamp numbers for USA headlamps are as quoted by Darryl.
ROW numbers are different.

944 631 930 00 R

M492 option - FOR LEFT HAND TRAFFIC
944 631 927 00 L
944 631 928 00 R

You polished that car so well any plastic that was not new looked dirty. The new lights and assembly makes the car look new.

Incredible shine Darryl, I think you can put the buffer down now.

Thanks Darryl and Oz!

(Now I wonder what the differences are, but I guess they have more to do with the city lights in ROW spec than with the light pattern it produces. But I need the city lights anyway due to Dutch laws.)

Ton,

US headlights do not have the leveling function that European spec lights have. If you have a wheel on the right hand side of the center console with numbers on it you need to buy european headlights.

But I think the lenses should be the same.

Thanks. I only need lenses though, no complete headlight assemblies. With 19% VAT it'd probably be cheaper to get them locally after all.

My last post regarding this subject, didn't mean to hijack this thread

yup.....rest of car was dingy and dirty!  Not to mention the fact that when you paint parts and panels edge to edge, the color is never a perfect match.  This is due to fading, age, oxidation, etc. and the primary reason why good painters and body shops will almost always insist on "blending" into adjacent panels when doing repairs.  That's also why good body shops are expensive.....they're doing more work to make it right.

@flash.....yeah, this car goes outside more than I'd like.  Good news is that it's properly protected and a good wash is usually all it takes to make it pop again.  I think it saw a good mutli-step polish last spring in preparation for a local show.  No machine on it yet this year!
