Child car seat - anyone installed one recently?
#1

Hi folks,

I need to install a child seat in my 944S2 Coupe (which should be very similar to a 968 Coupe):

* It's for my daughter (21-months old, 24-lbs in weight)

* Forward facing

* Installed in the rear seat (I don't want to disable the front airbags)

* She's too small for "booster" seats

I was wondering if anyone has recently done the same thing, and can recommend a specific model?

I know that some models have been recommended here in the past, but this market turns over its products so fast that you can't find them anymore.

So I'm particularly interested if anyone has recent experience installing one of these things...

TIA.

Seems to me the seats are small enough to qualify AS child seats. No?

Not according to Federal law... nor in practice for a 21-month old child.

And it looks like the law will be changed so that children up to the age of 10 and/or 80-lbs will be required to ride in a child seat!

Have you considered having the passenger airbag on an on/off switch with the display mounted in the driver's gauge area and the key switch mounted in the glovebox?

I had this done for the same reason in a Toyota four runner a few years ago.

On the whole, if I can get a child seat that will fit, that's my preferred option.

But if I can't, then other options (such as airbag disable) will need to be looked at.

However, I believe it should be possible to find a seat that fits...

If you do go with the car seat that fits, I would reccomend that you install a metal loop on the trunk deck, my cab has one on each side, that you can attach the top back of the car seat to with a nylon web belt. Many if not all of the new car seats have the rear mounting point.
