Checking car ride height
#1

Does anyone know how to check ride height against stock? My car seems a bit lower at the back and I want to check. I read somewhere that the racker panels should be parallel to the ground - so front and back should be equal height off level ground so that would be easy to check. Still doesn't say how to check against stock though.

with the car loaded as normally driven, the fuel tank half full, and the weight of the driver in the seat, the door sills should be parallel to the ground (not the rocker panels)

there is a method for ride height measurement described in detail in the workshop manual

How about the measurement to the top of the fender opening above the wheels? I see that referenced lots of times when forum members are talking about how their car is setting.

many of us just measure ground to top of fender, or center of axle to top of fender. it's not perfect, but it's not bad. the problem is that the cars are hand made, and fender fitment varies, sometimes by quite a bit. on a street car, this really won't matter. on a track car, the smallest error can result in large corner weight changes.

hence the reference to the correct method in the manual

I have measured from the ground to the fender, vertical through the wheel center - the driver side is 3/8" lower.

Not found the wrkshp manual method yet - I have just started in on replacing the rear pads and rotors. Progress tonight is I have the one side on a stand, wheel off, screws out of the rotor, caliper not yet removed.

I took some photos but I do not seem to be able to attach - I guess my status is too low

Anyway, while working the rear rotors and pads I took some photos of the backs of the rocker panels, where the brackets attach. On the drivers side, some of the L brackets look bent. On the passenger side, they look ok but the jack point is actually down lower than the lower edge of the rocker panel. On the drivers side it is above the lower level of the rocker panel.
