Cayenne hekp needed
#1

My 2006 Cayenne V6 has a problem that has gone undiagnosed now for 3 weeks.

About 4 weeks ago, I drove the vehicle for the first time in about a week. It started fine, but did not want to accelerate above about 3000 rpm. I blamed it on wetness as it had been outside and it had rained almost every day in the week previous.

I week later I drove it again. Same thing, but this time very unwilling to go above about 2000 rpm. Both times, after a couple of km, and after shutting if off and restarting, it ran great. But then, after being off only a few minutes the second time, it would not start. Not the way as if the battery was dying, and not as if there was no spark, but as if there was only a teaspoon of fuel available and, as soon as it was gone, if would shut off. A couple of times it would "start" but only idle at about 200 rpm and would not take any throttle to make the engine run better. I had to have it towed 140 km to the dealer. There it has sat since July 1. It has not recreated the event since.

No black smoke when running, just either crappy for a while, won't start or perfect otherwise.

Any ideas? Seems to me like a fuel problem but I am reluctant to just replace a fuel pump with no evidence that it is a problem. There is no fuel filter to replace.

definitely sounds induction related - try removing the gas cap - could be vapor lock, though i thought that was something of the past

isn't this still under warranty?

+1 on induction or something not seated properly. On my Sport Trac, I had a similar issue when I installed a k&n air filter...couldn't accelerate over 3000...it was as if the computer had to adjust for the additional air flow. Perhaps moisture got in somewhere it shouldn't have and it's thrown off the computer somehow.

sounds like the ecu needs to be reset, if that is possible

OR the air mass sensor is at fault

As far as I know the Cayenne is fly by wire for the accelerator pedal...maybe somehting is not working there?

Crank position sensor. Funny, it was at the shop from 1-27 July and they started it every couple of days to get it to act up but to no avail. I went yesterday to get it to take it for a drive and I didn't get off the lot. Code was crank position sensor failure.
