Cargo Net
#1

There is a pic on page 9 of what looks like a factory cargo net from a magazine article. Does anyone know if this is sourceable?

That looks like it might be a standard aftermarket type thing. You should be able to find something like that in your local auto parts store.

I have the original cargo straps for the sunroof that came with mine, still in the plastic bag. They're just standard 1 inch wide black nylon straps. I haven't really looked at the hooks and how they work too closely though.

Check small SUV's. Should be an easy mod if one must have it.

When I first got my 968- I wanted to get a cargo net. Sunset in Oregon said the 968 version is NLA. They offered a 928 version- which I bought and it works fine. I no longer have the part number- plastic wrapper is long gone. Wasn't too expensive, but Smokie's suggestion to look for one from a small SUV is probably cheaper.

I bought one from the local PEP Boys and it works just fine. Good luck, Bob Blackwell.

I'm going to check Pep Boys next time I cross the border.

Biotechee, how long ago was it that you bought the 928 cargo net? Any pics? How well does it fasten down in the 928. I wonder if the 928 has the same type of anchors?

I'd be careful. They are really cracking down on illicit auto parts accessories. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/wink.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Kgain-

It was one of the first things I bought more than 4 years ago. Works just fine when in use, but I really don't use it all that often. It fits in the back of the 968 fine and connects to the 968 existing anchor points with no issue.

The only thing that is not perfect is the net from the 928 is small so when it is installed in the 968, it is pretty taught to start.

I would suggest doing the Pep Boys / Autozone / JC Whitney route first- probably be cheaper and may give you a little more capacity than the 928 net.

Just my $0.02.

In case anyone is interested, here is a picture of the one that came with my 968. I have assumed it is the original one. I used it regularly for groceries, very useful, since it prevents that bag roll around. My fallback is to use the back seats which is a pain.

Thanks Biotechee, information appreciated and noted. Does it look the same as the on pictured above (thanks for the pic 968syncro).

I think I will look for something aftermarket first as you recommend.

Bob, by looking at your aftermarket net, do you think it would also work for a cab or is it too big?

It's aftermarket. I have one I bought in about 1998 in the 968 too.

There used to be a bloke who made them. He made the replacement sun blinds and the cargo net. Very good quality, too. I think he advertised in excellence or maybe online, but he may have moved on. I vaguely remember seeing a clearance on ebay a while ago.

If I find any references, I'll post them up.

Just stumbled across one that looks very similar -- being sold for Westfalia Vanagons.

The size isn't full width of the vehicle (see picture) but then the space in the 968 trunk isn't really full width. This vendor would probably give the size on the phone. Perhaps if somebody called this vendor they might reveal their source if they know we are searching for a net for a different car. Good news listed at only $9.95, bad news they show it on backorder.

Sorry for the delay guys........must be early onset of alzheimers or something. The net I bought from PEP Boys is too large for the Cab but I bought a smaller one to use in my 356 Coupe from checker - it is sold as "motorcycle/ATV Cargo Net" and is smaller than the one I use in the 968 coupe. Good luck, Bob Blackwell.
