CF Hoods are not avail anywhere as far as i know. Speed-6 only makes CF Naca Ducts & GT Racing isnt manufacturing CF Hoods for 968's at the moment. They may do another run this fall, but arnt 100% sure they will.

I'd like to get one, but cant seem to find one anywhere.

lol - i remember when that carbon fiber look first happened - (wow, now i feel really old) it was a complete mistake - it was never supposed to be seen like that - the first guy to make a part (it was a hood for an RX-3) had to leave before he got a chance to paint it - somebody else saw it and thought it was cool - the rest, as they say, is history

i'm just glad that the fad is finally fading out - i got so sick and tired of not being able to find a car without that stuff in the interior - still a few cars doing it, but it has pretty much gone away as a standard item - most cars are finally getting away from it on exterior panels too - one of the most popular items for the audi is the painted body color panel to replace the carbon fiber one

but, sanded is lighter than painted, so there is merit there for sure - somebody once told me how much paint on a car weighed, and i was stunned - by the time it's all said and done, the average car has over 40lbs of body filler, primer, paint, and clear

I find CF interior bits tacky. As far as the exterior goes, if done right...i dont find it tacky. My Turbo S rear spoiler is CF. The Sides are color coded and only the center isnt painted. It is clearcoated and wet sanded however. Very similiar to a factory mitsubishi Evo rear spoiler (color coded sides, CF center). My CF front splitter is also clear coated/wet sanded.

At the end of the day, everyone has their own subjective opinion.

I'm with you on your feeling on painting CF parts. It somewhat defeats the purpose of buying a CF part...then again..so does clear coating it (too a lesser extent), but at least it looks better this way. It is still lighter then other materials..and for people who hate the look...i guess painting works.

yeah - very subjective - i am likely the pickiest person i know when it comes to "decoration" - i like the understated look - i don't really like to advertise what is going on under the hood - coming from (i didn't say this) street racing many moons ago, "sleepers" were the big money winners - letting somebody know what you had only lowered the bet - i've kind of clung to that philosophy

no stickers on the car either

the last thing i want is some punk in a suburu revving his engine wanting to race - i much prefer the little "nod" i get from the ferrari guys

i seem to attract both. The Subaru revving as well as the nod's from guys driving high end cars. You'll see my car if we both show @ Hershey....Pete actually complemented me on the rear spoiler....which i totally did not expect.

I would never put any banners or stickers on the car...well...with the exception of the nurburging decal i have.

Here's few pics from the car with the new hood installed. I'll post detail pics later.
From the driver's side the hood is slightly higher than from the passanger side, but you actually see this if you go to look really close, and only from certain angle. So, fit is "quite good", but not as good as with OEM. I don't have weight saving figures, because fitting was done my local body shop guys. But, had to remove the original struts, because they were too stiff for this new hood. so, I would guess this hood is close to 40-50% lighter than oem. just guesses, still.

Built quality for the V-zweeden's hood was nice, it's cool looking part from the inside, where you can see all the fiber's and stuff. [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif[/img]

Wow, so it's not a myth - a carbon fiber hood actually exists for the 968. How much did it cost, if I may ask?

And if the original struts had to be removed, is there any way to prop it up, or do you have to use a dowel or something? Thanks.

if it's pure carbon fiber, it's probably even lighter than what you think - even with the aluminum reinforcement we were going to have to put in the one i was thinking about, it was only going to be about 14lbs, which is about 1/3 the weight of stock

however, if it's carbon fiber over fiberglass, it could be about 20lbs, which is indeed about half

at any rate, doesn't look too bad - i wonder what it would look like on a dark car where every little flaw shows up - i'm all about losing weight, especially up front

Nope. The hood was delivered directly to body shop, thus I didn't see it before painting. The shop owner told me it was quite nicely done already, and he has been working with fiberglass quite a lot. This hood is fiberglass, so not CF. I'll post some internal pics today, so you can see the construction and build better.

FB hood from V-Zweeden is 500eur + app. 100eur shipping door to door in Europe. to US it would of course be bit more, I suppose.

I have a c/f hood for my 951 from Van Zweden (actually a Dutch co.). It's OK without being great. The underside, much like the one pictured above is good. The topside needs some attention so I'm having some vents put in and 4 clear coats.
