Car died on the road
#1

Pulled out of a parking lot on to hwy, went about 100 ft and car died. Still had power steering control and other electrics so I was able to steer off the road with no problem. Cranked it a few times and after about 30 secs, it started back up, drove home 6 miles without any further problems. My thoughts are the following:

1. Fuel pump issue
2. DME relay
3. Wiring/ground issue
4. All of the above

Anyone have any other thoughts and where to start testing?

Thx

'93 blk coupe, 136k miles.

I think everyone would jump in and say #2 at 136K, then sit back and see if it ever happens again
Make the fuel pump jumper for the DME slot just in case and carry it around, I do.

That's the cheapest fix, so I will start there. Pelican has a DME made by Stribel for $25 and I've seen Kaehler for about the same price, anyone have any experience with these brands. An OEM Porsche relay is $90.

A 3X price increase in just a couple of years ?! Dealer prices were b/w $ 25 to $ 30 for the DME relay when I bought my spare
in '08 ..IIRC. Check Sunset Porsche and see what they charge for one, I can't imagine it's anywhere near $90..

Check alo the connectors at th underside of the car for the fuelpump. At 50 centimeters from the pump, above the gearbox is also a connector These one could be culprit. Mine was because I lost 3 volts in the wire. And the connectors were getting hot, When hot the don't work anymore and when the cool down they did. Frustrating and it gives you a bad feeling when driving the car.

search is your friend - always remember to use "more search options"

this one was easy - "DME jumper" turns up this from the "Posts every 968 owner should read" section:

I had the same problem as unknown4u - a poor connector 50cm from the pump, it is in a very exposed position back there by the rear wheels and if you are northern hemisphere and the car has dealt with 15 Winters then it could be a fair bet.

When mine went, I replaced the DME relay smugly expecting it to be sorted but it was not - this led me to chasing down the poor connector.

A lot of crap came off it but after a good clean up the connector seems to be behaving. I also sealed the whole thing with tape to prohibit any further issues with dirt ingress.

Good luck in sorting your ride.
