Car Covers
#1

I'm looking at the possibility of leaving the 968 inside the airport parking deck for a few days at a time. Since she is not accustomed to the elements (garaged for the last 4+ years), I want to use a car cover while I'm away. Any suggestions?, comments? etc.

Thanks,

hmmmm...don't use it at the airport unless you have your own hangar. I think it will draw attention. if you are parking under the deck, it won't really matter

I researched and bought a Covercraft car cover several months ago. The most popular model appeared to be their NOAH model for outdoor storage. I found the best price, of about $235 at Autosport Outfitters on the internet. My brother also ended up buying one for his BMW from the same supplier.

Having said all that, I tend to be a bit paranoid as xrad suggested. If you cover it......it's like putting a bright flashing light above it. It may draw theives or those that just have to prove to you that a cover doesn't protect you car. Why not take a taxi to the airport?

Agree - only park it at the airport if you have no other choice. My 968 has been displaced from my garage by my recently purchased 356 B Coupe, so I am using a car cover for outside storage now. I bought the small cover from COSTCO and it works well. Only cost about $30 too. When it rains (seldom out here in New Mexico) the dust from the cover leaves a mess on the 968 but a quick rinse off takes care of it. Good luck, Bob Blackwell.

i never worry about somebody breaking in or stealing the car - that is what insurance is for - i rarely even lock mine, so as to minimize damage in the event of a break in - i used to have a sign on my mg that said "it's unlocked - take what you must, but please don't hurt the car"

i think a car cover on the car at the airport is brilliant - every time i park there i end up with scratches from some knothead who think his jumbo garment bag is a carry-on, and tries to squeeze in between cars, scratching up the side of mine

just get one that has the cable lock that goes under the car - then it will require a tool to get in, making it less desirable of a target - think about it this way though, it's no more secure than the soft top, but will at least keep scratches off of it

as for which one, i have 2 - one water tight and one nice and soft - they are used accordingly, depending on the situation

Flash's comments are right on. Actually, the Covercraft cover I mentioned in my earlier posting is set up for the interconnecting cable under the car; however, they only provide a piece of rope to go between the two eyelets. And, for the premium you pay for the cover (versus the $30 Costco cover) you get a custom fitted cover that has pocets for the mirrors on the car and a supplied eyelet that can be installed if you have a roof antenna. I chose not to use the eyelet and just unsrew my antenna when I put the top on.
