Unable to trace the provenance of the cap and rotor on my car, I decided it was a good thing to replace them in preparation for an aftermarket chip.
Folks, you do not want the contacts on your cap and rotor to look like this....must use Internet Explorer to view pics.

I also just replaced my cap, rotor, wires, and plugs. I dropped one of those spacers and it took me 15 minutes to fish it out.
My cap and rotor looked much worse than your pics and the metal tab on the rotor was almost gone.
With the new hardware in the car runs really smooth all the way up to red line without hesitation. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/cool.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Yep, my car had the washers and I took EXTREME caution making sure that I didn't drop one of those little buggers. I managed to get it in all right with no problems. Pete warned me about them so I was super-ass careful.

I actually don't think your rotor looked that bad and the cap looked normal for a used cap.
Like Bob, I'll be replacing the cap/rotor/wires and plugs as soon as the rest of the parts get here. Haven't taken anything apart yet but with 107k mi. on original wires, 10k on plugs and unknown on cap/rotor (per PO's records) I just wanted to do them all at once and be done with it.

I've seen caps and rotors in much worse condition that still seemed to run well. But I've seen a few where the spring action electicity pass through snaps with no notice. So I've gone the more conservative route in replacing before it starts to look bad.
I was looking on line at replacement caps and rotors, and I noticed Porsche OEM and Bosch. Bosche was about half the price. Anyone experience any performance issues with Bosch? I've always thought them to be a quality mfg.
Also, thanks for the tip on the cap spacers, I'd have definitely dropped them.

Just a guess here but I suspect the Porsche parts are Bosch just they go directly through Porsche AG (Parts Dept) hands hence the added markup. I suspect part of the issue is Porsche warranties their (Porsche) parts for 2 years, I don't know if it's only if it's installed by a dealer or not but they would have to cover for those losses somehow.
I would have no problems whatsoever using the Bosch parts.

It pointed me in the direction of a quick fix, after clicking on the thumbnails I saved the resulting pages as something.jpg and was able to open them as regular pics.

Actually Dirk, this has been a problem for a couple of months, there's even a thread on the forum about it. I believe it only affects Mozilla users (like myself) but I know it doesn't affect IE. I have to switch to IE when I want to view attached photos.

Replaced the cap/rotor/plugs/wires on my car Sun., didn't get to drive until tonight. I thought I was detecting a minor high load (RPM) breakdown before but it now seems to be gone. Of course w/ 107k mi. on the wires I would expect them to be worn out. My cap and rotor were in fair shape so will be saved as spares, plugs were so-so.
The Bosch cap was $45 (which I can kinda see) but that rotor at $45 is damn pricy! I think they're making money all along the food chain on that one.
As for the little spacers on the rotor, mine were threaded, so they wouldn't fall off, they stayed on the screws. I imagine if they stuck to the dist. base they could unscrew when you unscrewed the rotor screws but mine stayed fully on the rotor screws.
Now that I know what those new parts feel like I'll put in the RSBarn chip that came on Fri........
