Can the crankshaft gear be installed either direction? My had the writing on the gear side towards the front of the car when I pulled it. I want to make sure before I reinstall it. I'm putting in new seals. Visually, the crank gear appears interchangeable...but I've learned that the visual is not good enough. It was leaking before I started the job.
I'll post the answer to this question when I find out the answer. The PET doesn't show the detail and I'm having trouble getting to the digital workshop manual.

Greimann,
You're a gentleman and scholar! You just sent me proof positive on how it's supposed to be oriented. I just ordered a new crank seal, o-ring and (just in case) a new sleeve and will attempt this install again. According to the vendor, the differently numbered seal that they sold me is just a replacement for the one that was in my car. While I was working on the car, I had all the parts laid out on a piece of marked paper to keep things from getting mixed up but my wife tripped over them and mixed them up. Before putting stuff back on, I want to be positive that I'm doing it right. Your foto is the only thing that has shown me the way. The PET and Repair Manual don't show enough detail...at least that I could find.
Thanks, again.
