94 Silver 6 spd coupe in Oviedo, FL
#1

Hi Guys:

I sold my 93 Amazon 6 spd coupe a coupe (17" wheel with LSD) years ago for grad school and missed it since then. Paid $17K for it with 55K miles. Now school is done, all caught up with debt and ready for another one!

Found this on Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...p;rd=1&rd=1

I carfaxed it and communicated with the shop selling the car for a 70 yrs old man who has to sell it

due to a spine problem. The shop is commissioned to find a tip boxster for him. He only put ab0out 5K

over the past three years on it. That's kind of questionable. He also has someone modify the 8 ways seat

with racing safety shoulder straps and has claimed to done little track on it. I checked the option code, it's pretty standard w/o LSD, not sure if he has 16, or 17" wheels on?

Wondering if any of you live close to Oviedo and wouldn't mind to check it out for me prior to flying down

from Jersey and do the whole PPI?

The biggest I have is whether the mileage is true, any notable pinion bearing noise, and condition of the clutch/tranny/handling? He is asking for 17k, I think it's kind of high for with 87K miles on it.

Any input/suggestion/effort is much appreciated. Fred

I hope the price is not too high for only 87K! that looks like a beautiful 968 in my favorite color combination. The wheels are not correct for a 1994 968 - it should have the rounded sppoke Cup II wheels instead of those flat sppoke cup I wheels. I wouldn't worry about the harness installation, even if it has been on a track, it should not have suffered any damage. Good luck, Bob Blackwell.

As an owner who "tracks" his car, I've come to be bothered - even to resent - the implication that taking a car (in this case, a Porsche) on the track is bad. I'd suggest that, to the contrary, owners that "track" their cars usually are the most critical and fastidious about maintenance, often have done "go" rather than "show" upgrades, and have demonstrated the reliability of the car under circumstances that make it a safer street car. Sure, you should examine any potential purchase - but don't castigate it because it has (or may have been) on a track.

chanf968,

Is Zotz Garage the shop that is selling it for this individual? If so, I do not believe that they would misrepresent the car as something that it is not. I use Zotz to do work on my cars and I believe that you can trust them. I am in the area and I could try to make some time to have a look if you would like although I can't guarantee how soon I could do it. Based on the pictures, I would say that those are 17" wheels. Where are you at in NJ? I frequently do work up in the Ft. Monmouth, Red Bank area.

Hey Mike:

I wished it was Zotz, as least someone else know about their work. The shop's name is Bamsport? in Oviedo. I googled, yellowpaged the shop and couldn't find even a listing about it.

The auction ended last night with $17K for the initial bid on Ebay, and no one went for it. He re-post the starting bid at $15G. As for the timing, if you can test drive the car within the next couple days, that will be great! If not, no sweat, it's just not meant to be.

I am located in Middlesex/Piscataway area. I haven't driven an M30 before. I was pleased with the coupe with LSD. How does it handle as an everyday car?

Anchorman:

I agree with you. Most track owner I know they took care of their car for the reasons you mentioned. I was more concern with whether it trully has 87K miles on it. I carfaxed a white one on Ebay, and the mileage discrepancy flagged.

thanks, Fred

Fred,

I will see what I can do. I have not heard of Bamsport before. I thought $17K was a little optimistic on the seller's part but it does look like a nice car.

Re: M030...very nice setup for a daily driver. Not too harsh for the street and just firm enough for the track.
