I believe the shifter in my car has come apart. While making a shift today the boot itself seems to disconnect from the metal shifter underneath. Can this be fixed?

Can you disassemble and remove the surroundings to take a pic or 2? Id be intersted to view what has actually happen.

If the whole shifter and boot want to lift as you shift, then it sounds like the retaining clip has dislocated. You will have to lift the boot to look underneath and reinstall the metal clip. Good luck.
