Brakeline Replacement Schedule?
#1

Do you guys replace brakelines routinely or just when they are obviously worn out? I have no way of knowing if my 70k mile 968 has original or replacement lines. They look good. If one of the four brake lines were to pop while driving, wouldn't you still have braking in the other end of the car anyway so you could limp home or do your lose braking in all four wheels all if a line goes?

The Porsche service manual doesn't specify a replacement schedule, just inspection schedule every 12k miles (yea, like we do it that often). 10 Years would be a reasonable preventative interval. If you do replace them, get the teflon lined braided ones and they should last a lifetime.

I don't think that popping a brake line is a limp home situation even if you do have partial system function. Not safe. A tow truck is cheap insurance.

hose companies only warranty their product for 5 years - they generally recommend a change at no more than 8, with inspections every 2

popping one would mean that every time you hit the pedal, you pump out fluid - we only have one reservoir, so it would affect all braking - it will also gravity drain - you could probably hit the brakes once or twice after that - then you're stuck without brakes - you would also be potentially in trouble in your clutch, since they share the same reservoir

the teflon lines are a great mod that will firm up your pedal, and last forever - cheap too
