Board layout... opinions needed
#1

Guys I have been playing with the layout of the board. I want to guage your thoughts. Check out www.caymanforums.com. I am using the same board skin for the new site. However I have it setup to use the entire screen. What do you guys think, do you like the fixed board or the "stretch to screen" configuration?

Thanks for your support.

Just bop'd over to your caymanforum - I like its stretched layout (stretch to layout?) look better - no more blank boarders...

Ordinarily I would vote the same way, but I run a large monitor, and in that configuration individual lines of text are so long as to be hard to follow. I kind of wish there were a middle ground between the two options.

I personally like the stretched format. That way, any user can resize their browser to whatever size they like.

My 2 cents.

i like it too - given a choice between reading long lines and having to scroll, i choose long lines - scrolling is a pain - anything i can do to get it all on one page works for me

I'll cast as large a vote as I can for the "cayman" format. That would solve one of my biggest problems with the current 968forums.

I voted for the stretched screen version...

also, I thought this board was where the enthusiasts meet. The Cayman board says the same thing. I'm an enthusiast and confused as to where I belong....

also also - I love the guy's .sig above that says Anything worth doing is worth over doing. That is fabulous. I might have to steal that.

Different Enthusiasts over there... possibly when the Cayman is delivered there will be 968 enthusiasts that will spring for the new Porsche outcast.

I think we pretty much have a verdict. I will be working on delivering this next mod this week. BTW I was the 1 of 2 that voted for fixed! lol!

I have to say I prefer the wider version, and have voted accordingly. For what its worth, I really like the 968UK forum layout. Easy to navigate, logical layout. I do like the specific technical forums, but again, that just my opinion.

The Cayman format looks much better on my 14 inch iBook. Thanks for taking the pulse.

i'd like to see things generally scrucnched up vertically, but that is on my 17" 1024 by 768 - it might look totally different on a different size screen - on mine, a lot of space is wasted with blank areas - at least the wider format is going to help

i also like the "current topics" way that UK is laid out, but i hate the tab thing at the bottom to get to the different sections - that was one of the features i liked about .net - if you went to "active topics" it would list things that were current, and sorted by section - the refresh thing was cool too - i find myself actually having to spend time looking at the screen and hitting the reload button, whereas before i could ignore it until something new popped up

one thing at a time - not complaining - very happy with the progress

One mod that would be nice (off topic somewhat) is moving the 'submit' buttons on all pages to the top of the page also.

For instance, when I use the 'reply' function on a thread, I type in my response, but to submit it, I have to scroll down. I hate scrolling. I wish the submit button could also be found at the top, so people like me who aren't attaching files or spell checking and have no need for all that stuff at the bottom, could just click 'reply' without scrolling.

I love the site though, its awesome.

Whatever. I don't have an intelligent opinion one way or the other.

The Opera browser is available for Mac and PC's. It has an automatic refresh built in.
