Glass Cab Rear Window - Idea/Feedback Needed
#1

My rear window has the small crack in the upper left corner that is seen so much. Must add this is due to the window not folding correctly - something you can catch lowering the top in the manual mode (something you do not see lowering the top sitting in the car).

Anyway, to my point. I have been doing some careful measuring on glass rear cab window on some other cars. I have sourced one that is slightly narrower than our cab window and not as tall. The glass comes just below the fold point if the lower edge aligns with current bottom of the vinyl.

Would having a rear window approx 4" shorter be issue to most of you? For clear vision out the rear. Rear view mirror alignment would not be perfect is major drawback. Could even have defroster!

Next stop is to see if I can get one of the top manufacturers to send me a window section that is solid (no vinyl window)

We've talked about it quite a few times over here, but because it folds, and the window is curved, even if it was a two piece window, it would fold like this " )( " and so I think we gave up on it. If you do come up with a good solution, do let us know. How about just not having a window? <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> Good luck.

Appreciate the feed back

With the window height being 4" lower the fold is not issue - fold will then accure only in the fabric just above the window. To start with I will mask my rear window to that size and position and see if it inhibits sight too much. I found glass that would match the curvature pretty close.

If it works I will take good pics.

yeah, it sounds like a great idea. My two concerns which are the same as yours are functionality, and overall appearance. I'm sure it wouldn't look worse than clouded plastic, but isn't the current window only like 11 inches tall? -4 inches or so, and you're left with a 7 inch window shifted down from center. Do let us know how it works out with functionality (masking tape). Thanks.
