BMW 335i
#1

This past day I've had a chance to drive my friend's brand new 335i around Portland Oregon, and on the way back to vancouver (We drove his 330i down there). I have to say that car is impressive, to say the least. Doing 100mph on the highway is SO quiet and smooth that you feel like you're doing 50. The low end power is unbelievable compared to our 4 bangers; at 2k RPM punch the throttle and you get a rush of power that throws you into the seat as you rocket away at WOT. And yet, it feels more like a luxury car than a sports car O_o

On the way back I had to pick up my car from the office, so I jumped in and fired it up. Wow, what a different 17 years and 2 cylinders makes. A stock 968 feels very lethargic compared to that brand new BMW, especially when it's been sitting around for a couple of days, hasn't been brought up to temperature, and needs a tune up

But there is nothing like jumping into my own car and driving off It further strengthens my resolve to try to get this sucker close to 300HP, and maybe shed 100lbs if possible. Maybe go for broke and get a supercharger. Decisions decisions ... and so many bills

Renalicious,

You echo my sentiments exactly! I've driven a 335i a couple of times (we settled on a 328i instead - it's my wife's car, and she would never use the 300 hp in the 335), and it is truly an impressive all-around car. And yes, it really does make our 968's feel every bit the 15 - 17-year-old cars they are, which, like you, I take as a challenge. But as you indicate, updating our cars to get remotely close to the best of what's coming out nowadays would take a pile of c-notes stretching from here to the moon...
