New 968 Owner..>Couple of Help Questions
#1

Hello All:

I recently purchased my first 968 (previously had 2 944's, 924 and 1 928) from Eric...Guards 968 MO30 Coupe. In any event I have a couple of things I need to do to it...

1. Install front splitter...Does this get installed Below the front Belly Pan or between the belly pan and the bumper?

2. The lower front grille is cracked in several places (I have a new one)...Is it neccessary to remove the bumper to replace..Looks like 17 tiny screws hold the thing in.

Any help would be appreciated...Thanks, Jeff

I believe the splitter should bolt directly to the bumper

As for the front grill...yes it sucks..but you do have to remove the bumper as it is too tight to get in there and try to take those screws out otherwise..i dont think anyone has done it without taking the bumper off

the splitter sanwiches between the bumper cover and the lower belly pan

flash - if you have some short cuts for removing the front bumper cover, i'd be interested in hearing them. i've hesitated to install my 968 engineering grille for a few weeks now because i stalled out in getting the cover off the car. i think i know what to do because dave's directions were pretty good, but any tips would be helpful.

also, does anyone have a source for the black body gasket that runs around the car? i think i should replace mine and i'd like to avoid the dealer if possible.

the gaskets are fitted pieces - dealer only as far as i know - very cheap though, at sunset imports (www.sunsetimports.com)

1. jack up front of car and put on jack stands - check for security and safety

2. recheck - you can remove the wheels for easier access, but it can be done without it

3. remove front belly pan screws - a bunch of phillips and a few 10mm hex head - don't lose the dumb little washers

4. remove hex head screws in tire well that point forward (1 each side- 10mm hex head)

5. remove small nuts at each end of front belly pan

6. lower belly pan - take care - it is probably full of gunk that will spill everywhere

7. looking up from underneath the car, you can reach up and gain access to the 3 hex nuts that attach the fender to the bumper cover - remove these, along with the bracket they go through - remember which bracket goes where and its orientation

8. remove 4 phillips head screws at front edge

9. remove long metal strip

10. remove washers in holes where screws were - remember these

11. at the end of the body gasket, near the end of where the metal strip was, unhook the end of the body gasket

it's now all ready to remove, but first you have to disconect the lights

12. lay a towel or blanket or something in front of the car so you can sit the bumper cover on it

13. this next part is easier with a friend

14. one side at a time, pull forward on the bumper cover, freeing it from the slot, but not removing it

15. one side at a time, pull forward on the cover and reach in and disconnect the lights - 2 connectors each side - this is where a friend can help by holding the bumper cover in place as you do this, so it doesn't fall off the car when you aren't ready to catch it

16. remove bumper cover by pulling evenly forward, taking care not to snag anything or scrape your paint

after you've done this a couple of times, it only takes about 15 minutes - hopefully you will never get that good at it

well, i did hit the "fast reply" button

glad to help - it is pretty easy - biggest pain is on reassembly, taking care not to scratch anything - getting the new gaskets to seat properly can be a challenge too - they are taped and stapled for a reason
