I agree with Kwikt, If you got the space (and the bolt is already stripped), definitly try to hammer a quality Torx socket into the head of the bolt, then hit it with a hand-driven impact driver!

I loosend ALL of my camshaft bolts with this tool. Do not even bother to try loosening them with a ratchet, you are allmost certain to damage this type of bolt, certainly if they have not been unscrewed for the last twenty years or so.

I just took a cheesehead socket and the impact tool and hammered away. This way you do not even damage the bolts!

This tool should be in the top drawer of every mechanic or DIY-person! Saves you a LOT of drilling time!

And you smacked those poor little bolts before giving them a chance to come out peacefully.

Are these bolts made in Wisconsin? I don't know that I have encountered one.

I had problems with one of my cam tower bolts that broke off (the one right next to the variocam assembly). Drilling, chisels, etc worried me too much to try.

I bought one of these kits:

I can't recommend it enough. It's already helped me out of two sticky situations, once with a stuck nut on my Jeep and it removed the remains of the cam tower bolt with little problems.
