Back seat option?
#1

I've only ever seen 944's and 968's with full leather back seats, until I noticed a car on AutoTrader.com with back seats that look like they're out of a 911. Was this an option, or did someone put some 911 seats into this car?

That is how late '94 and '95 cars are. Earlier ones have the full seat.

cheap bast***s at Porsche, trying to save a few bucks ( ha! - could be a pun here if the seats were made of deerskin leather ) by reducing the amount of leather in later models.. I wish I had an early 94, at least those seats look finished, like they should. I guess I should be thankful they did not put fabric inserts in the front seats.

There is of course the custom option of turning that area into storage.

Yep, just a little weekend project I did last year. The factory seat back there makes no sense, and the covered storage cubby makes better use of the space.

I agree that the factory seat is pretty useless. Except for midgets. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/biggrin.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> I'm sure they work great for midgets. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/tongue.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/laugh.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> (Hope I haven't offended any midgets in the crowd)

I'm curious why you left the seat backs in, since you could gain more space taking them out. To keep stuff from sliding forward from the trunk?

Yep, to keep the groceries from smacking me in the back of the head. If I need to make a Home Depot run for some plywood or 2x10's, the backs still fold down.

Dave, you've been holding out on me! This looks like a great mod. Did you have to cut anything? I usually don't do mod's unless there's cutting...

Standing by with the flame wrench for your answer...

Actually no cutting of the car involved <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/sad.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> . Just removal of the back seat, seat belts and installing some carpet on the bare sheetmetal that is under the seat bottom.

The original idea was to swap my rear seat cushion for a cab cubby, because rear seats in a cab make a lot of sense for those who want them (see pix below). The cab owner decideded against the swap because it meant cutting the carpet out of the rear area so the seat cushion could be installed properly. So I had to come up with my own cubby design, which was actually a better fit than a cab unit anyway. The fake cushions and arm rest are just embellishments.
