audi r 8
#1

just saw an audi r 8 facing me - did not see the rear end, just the nose and a partial side view.

the images on the ienternet never impressed me, not crazy about the style, but I have to tell you - in person, looking straight at it this car was about as imposing and menacing looking as anything I've seen. jaw-dropping. may be because it was black and things are stealthier in that color..

lucky for him, I was driving the MBZ sedan, otherwise I'd have taught him a lesson or two with the rocket that is the 968... what ?! - all I need is a 3 second jump start before we get to 60 , and a couple more handicap for the 1/4 mile, and it's a contest !

Yeah, I'd be interested in seeing one in person as well, because I agree, in photos, it doesn't look very inspiring. In fact, I'd describe it as rather bland, and it looks like Audi is trying to make it interesting by painting the side flanks a different color from the rest of the car, but it just doesn't work - it just looks like they're trying too hard. I don't think the car is ugly, just a little dull for a supercar.

We just got ours this week (not mine... i work for a Jag, Porsche and Audi dealer!) The car is smokin beautiful and it looks just plain pissed off. The car in person is much better than in the articles. Most of the press stuff I'd seen was from the side or back and I never got a feel for the car's attitude. But rolling into the showroom... wow. It scared the rest of the cars. me too a little...

There were four at the last track day I did at Pocono. The Audi experience was there with them. I must say they are much nicier in person than in the photos. The sound nice too. The interior is very clean and professional, and typical Audi understated. A friend had a chance to go out in one on the South Course at full pace with their chief instructor. He is a Porsche guy, but came back so impressed that he stated he would choose it over ANY Porsche regardless of cost. Tall statement. We were driving in Lambo's and a GT40 that day. (Part of the benefit of instructing!!).

Initial opinion was the R8 is a supercar you could actually drive everyday. Looking forward to driving one. Too rich for my budget, but the new TT looks like it might make a nice commuter replacement for my S4 Avant.

that's what I thought also from seeing all the photos, but this car's side flanks ( as much as I could see of them, which was not a lot ) did not have a contrasting color. the car was pure black all around.

It sure looks aggressive to me in photos as well.

Even more agressive than a Viper, perhaps. . .

I think it's gonna be a great seller and help continue Audi's increbile run. Will Audi become a more prestigious marque than BMW, I wonder ??

An amazing comeback from near bankruptcy for the unintended accusation of unintended acceleration.

As I recall, little was proven to incriminate Audi, but they suffered tremendously from the bad publicity.
