Is there a way to have an image appear fullscale if it comes in via the "attach' mechanism, or does it have to be thumbnailed?

One way to do it is to upload as usual with the thumbnail. View your picture in the post and copy the URL of the full size window, then edit your post with an img tag with the full size URL.

FWIW Dave's tip never actually worked for me, because I get a php tag which the BB refuses to see as an image: "Sorry, dynamic pages in the [IMG] tags are not allowed."
