Man, that's a fugly weld! Didn't even polish off the burn marks- 1 minute on a bench grinder with a polishing wheel would take care of that nicely...

I don't know if its cost effective or not, but wouldn't it be easier to just modify the 944 short shift kit? Seems like the only difference is the pivot arm thing.

not quite - there are a LOT more differences that you really can't see in the pics - we're on it though - i've already got a preliminary completely new design in my head utilizing the same "idea" this shift kit accomplishes, but with different components - i'm knocking out sketches right now, and i'll fill everybody in when i get drawings done and get into proto mode - lol - please let me go to work now

Here is a mark-up of the PET figure for the 968 linkage and what I think is replaced by the 944 Racing SSK. Now, I have not crawled under my car (lots of dirt mixed with ATF from the power steering leak is still there <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/sad.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> ) so I may be way off the mark.

yup - that's it - lots of things involved, lots of clearance issues too, as the shafts move front to rear, in and out of the transmission and swivel along the way

So, after finally reading all five pages of this thread, I'm still confused about something...we're talking about a short shift kit that simply reduces the throw, but retains the use of the factory lever, boot, and knob...no modifications necessary? If so, then I'd be in as well. Reducing the throw a little would be nice, but I have no problem with the height of the factory lever, feel of the knob, etc. I actually don't really like the various aftermarket short shifts I've driven - I guess they're more "geared" for track use...ha, I crack myself up!

Remeber that there was an intial problem with some cars (variances from car to car) of shifting into reverse - an interference problem - it was solved by grinding a small portion of the ball joints housing. 944racing sent out instructions on how/where to grind or as in my case let me send it back to them and they made the adjustment and returned free of charge...
Just something to keep in mind for the new and improved model...

The design doesn't appear to be too difficult to fab. The only part that looks a little tricky is the the welded piece - it would have to be jigged in the for correct orientation. And, then the heim joint would have to be re-lubed; the grease probably burns out during the weld process. The heim joint with the shaft is an off-the-shelve item, so I'm not sure what would have to be pressed[?]. However I suppose if the shaft is welded and then pressed into a joint, the challenge would be not harming the joint.

press fit into spherical bearing
not good - he did this all in his garage and all himself, and in a low cost area, which all made it cost effective for him - not for anybody else though
no worries - i think i've worked out something better, more flexible, and more cost effective - i'll work on the drawings this weekend, and after a couple of test fitting measurement steps, can then get a prototype knocked out

I remember this problem, too. As I recall, the problem wasn't universal. I don't know if the "model" I sent to Flash would have the problem or not.

as i mentioned above, i am aware of the old problem - i do not think the one here will have the problem - from memory, it looks like the mod has already been done - i will verify when i get my car in the air and can look at mine to compare

Do you currently have the Speed-6 SSK in your car? If so, do you plan to replace it with the one you're working on? I have the Speed-6 unit, and am very happy with it, but am curious if you think the new one will have any advantages over the Speed-6. In any event, at least I'll know I won't be out of luck in case mine ever breaks.

Speed 6 sells the unit that goes up front, which is i believe the kolkeln unit
