Anyone running Yokohama dBS2s? Are they as quiet as the ads say they are?

I have them on my MBZ E 320. "Quiet" would be an understatement ! You have never experienced anything like this - they are DEAD SILENT. It's like riding on air !! Dry or wet grip is outstanding, as well. But then again, the E 320 is a quiet sedan, I don't drive it like a maniac ( as I do the 968 <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/cool.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> ) so may be one can appreciate them more on that type of car...

That being said, in spite of the fact they have the sufficient speed rating to take you to the 160mph the 968 is capable of, I was told by many that it would be a pity to put them on the Porsche and that I should instead go for tires which are in the highest, pure all around performance category...so I did. Not sure I am quite happy, but time will tell. I may put the dB S2 on the 968 at some point, after all..

For daily driving and comfort, I would recommend this tire without any reservartions.

I bought my 968 Cab 3 years ago and it had the dbs2 with about a 3rd of the tread still. At that point I considered the cornering to be atrosious with severe and somewhat unpredictable fish tailing. The yoko avs es100s are far superior imo. of course a new tire will almost alway outperform an old one all things being equal. I did notice that tirerack surveys consider them to be very good overall (8.8) dry traction. I can only reconcile this perhaps because must be much better new and then rapidly decline. I hope the same isn't true of the new avs es100's i just put on. At this point the difference in handling is like between night and day. The handling was so bad that even though I could have gotten another summer out of the dbs2's I opted to put on new tires becuse the performance had sucked all of the joy out of driving my 968. I now have a big sh** eating grin again on my face after putting her through her paces.

I replaced Pirelli's at 46k with the Yokahamas.

Last week at 64.5k the rears were bald (particularly the right rear), fronts were 50% or better.

I replaced the rears with the latest version of the db2 (Tire Rack said they were the closest match) and have found the rear end to be a bit loose. Feels like the time my old Renault had totally mismatched rubber. I'm hoping its just break in or tire pressure. Meanwhile, I'm not putting too much pressure in the corners, etc.

I'd appreciate other's thoughts

ES100's on the 968 Cab and they do ride very nicely, decent grip and pretty good in wet or dry. 225/50/17 and 255/45/17 on 7.5 and 9 x 17 boxster twist rims.

I have the Yoko AVS Sport on my 951S - same size tires and rims and they are noticeably superior in dry traction but then the S has M030 suspension and the cab does not.

Neither are "quiet" tires though - but I'll live with the noise and harsher ride for the extra handling performance.

For the price, the ES100's were a smoking good deal from Discount Tire . I have no hesitation to recommend these for all round daily use with a little track time thrown in.

Hi,

Is anybody using the Good Year eagles f1 gsd3 which according to the tirerack survey is the max performance tire to have? Of course they are not N rated but neither is the SO3 or probably the yokohama?

In an emergency (on a trip) all I could buy in Resume Speed, Missouri were the Good Year Eagles. They're not bad tires, quieter than my SO3s..but may not be rated as high. Quieter than the S03s, and a bit more squirrley in corners I think. Not sure about the wear as they've not been on very long. I'm not buying S03s again.
