Anybody know a great mechanic in the Portland OR?
#1

My great mechanic Wes Andrews finally tossed in the towel and retired today. He was working at a shop called Motorsports.

Does anyone know of a great or good mechanic who works on 968's in the Portland OR area?

As, so far i have not gotten any leeds for a mechanic here in Portland even though there are about 6-8 968's floating around but i do not know who they are except for one, I may have to sell the car. Its now in great shape but withourt a mechanic to do the work on it it will not be in the future.

That's a tough spot to be in but I completely understand and empathize ; people may find this silly but after having the same mechanic work on my cars for 34 years , and the same person cutting my hair for roughly an equal period of time, I am so dependent on those two that the mere thought of the possibility one or both may retire ( though they could , simply on the money I alone have paid them, lol ) is enough to cause me panic attacks. I can cope with replacing my dentist, my doctor, my job , lol .. but simply cannot fathom how I would go about leaving the car in the trust of anyone else's hands.

Don't be afraid of change! Often it is a good thing. Mind you I have been going to the same barber for 41 years. I also have driven a four hour round trip for the last four years to get to my mechanic for the 968's! Does your barber have a son in the biz. Mine does and that's my replacement strategy! Don't have one as yet for the 968's but working on it.

With these cars being over 20 years old and only about 4600 or so sold in the US, I realize how lucky, and I mean lucky, I was to find and replace my transmission and engine within days of starting my search.

These cars will only get more difficult to service parts wise as time goes on. Thinking of breaking the old engine down for it's parts and just holding them.

So finding and retaining good and knowledgeable 968 mechanics will continue to be a chore. God luck William. Don't sell yet!

When I moved from NYC to Portland OR i forgot about my haircutter. Eventually I found another one. but there were lots to choose from. Mechanics are much harder.

This may be a "long shot"...

But try emailing this shop in Bellevue,WA and ask if they know someone they would recommend in Portland with regards to working on a 968!

* Chris's German Auto Service - Specialized in Porsche Service and Modification - Bellevue, WA

* Tel. 425. 462. 9296 / Fax. 425. 455. 2551 / Chris@Chrisgerman.com

This shop worked on my 968 while it was owned by the previous two owners (based on the bills I was handed @ time of purchase).

As a fellow Portland 968 Owner, I am sorry to hear that Wes is retired. He's got a lift in his garage, maybe he'll do work on the side for us.

I have heard good things about Chris's shop in Bellevue. There's like a concentration of 944's in the areas with more interest in racing because of this shop. I think it's a great idea to call him.

You've got a pretty sweet car. I hope you find a way to keep the car and feel covered by a good mechanic. Let us other PDX guys know what you find out.
