Another 968 register?

@"inked"

I spent some minutes back when you first arrived trying to figure out your handle because I also thought it said "inked-up-fat-boy"

Use of Wikipedia led me to the following possibilities:

1. A tattooed Harley (fatboy) rider

2. A wealthy Harley rider.

3. A large tattooed man

4. A large wealthy man.

Either way, I had a good laugh! :0)

Jeff must be busy with other things he always answered any questions I had right away now I do not get a response from him? Probably moving on to other things.

Then he should let the PCA know so they stop recommending him and they should appoint another individual to take over.

I don't know anything about that. Still waiting for PCA to return my call.

I wonder what kind of hornet's nest I stirred up?

It's a fair question so it's no hornets nest. Consider it part of your PCA membership fee!

Don't put off till tomorrow what you can do today! I'll gladly pay you tomorrow for a hamburger today. The beach without young lovelies makes one sadly reflective.

I talked to Jeff a couple weeks ago and also shared the same concern about the very outdated website which requires the webmaster to do all the work - and it doesn't seem like the webmaster is too interested anymore.

I volunteered to put together a new 968register website that will be a lot easier to maintain/update built on the Wordpress platform where members will have individual logins to be able to view the information on their own cars and access the database of other owners/cars with photos, etc. I know the basics of programming having built a few websites in the past and am good at reading things on the web to figure stuff out, but it is a very slow process trying to link "plugins" to read and feed into different database sections, set up security, etc.

Having a 2 month old baby will certainly cut into my time available to work on it.

I'd love for the site to be a great resource just like the rest of us, and one day it will be...but right now the site needs to be rebuilt from scratch...so don't expect anything anytime soon.

Even if someone just had an excel spreadsheet and it was available as a PDF, it might be an improvement over what we have now which seems to be nothing. If someone does not want to do something, then they need to speak up and say so as to give someone else the opportunity to jump in...or....have more than one person splitting the duties as many hands make light work...

Don't misconstrue my criticism as a knock on Jeff, as I don't even know him. I am just frustrated when I am told I can expect service and don't get it.

I just had the color chart emailed to me yesterday.

i don't think he wants it out there publicly. i think he prefers the limelight.

if i had my hands on the database, i could quickly put together something that protected porsche's rights, and at the same time gave us all something useful. it would only take a couple of days. i know somebody else who has it, and i plan to see if i can make that happen. i'm pretty slammed for a while though.

I'm curious what rights Porsche retains to the data? Isn't it just colors and options by year and VIN?

Allen,

Porsche sells "Certificates of Authenticity" for $99. They give you all of the specifics on your VIN #. If someone else gives you that information then you are less likely to purchase a piece of paper that basically says the same thing.

We know that Porsche is very protective of their rights, we have no desire to stir things up with them.

I would think once a car is sold, it becomes public domain... sounds like they're protecting their revenue stream, not necessarily their rights. In which case I'd expect them to be *particularly* rabid about it.

I just went there and the Cabriolet registry has been removed. No explanation given.

it's the rights to their revenue stream that are at issue. anybody giving out the information they own and sell, which came from their database (and unless we are mistaken, it is the only source), would be guilty of interfering with their business. porsche would be well within their rights to sue. we want no part of that.

now, if the registry wanted to publish the list of what their members sent them voluntarily, that's a different story altogether. each owner acquires the same rights as porsche to that information when they purchase the car, whether new, or used. a listing like that could be public domain. however, they could not include in that release the VINs that were not sent to them. they would have to be prepared to produce proof that the owners sent them the information, with the knowledge and understanding that it would be published.

So really, all it would take is starting a new registry website - letting people voluntarily add this information (with a disclaimer that info will be made public) and then making the info public by letting people download a PDF.

He has all the stats posted on the page without vins as far as number of vehicles produced.

Sooner or later the owners would more than likely find the new registry, even if it was not advertised. - After all, that was how I found it as well as this site.

All the last modified dates are well back into 2012.

That's about how I'm planning to build the site. The "database" will be built on the full list, and when a member registers, it will link to the database entry and give that user the option of whether they want their information shared or not. The non-member-verified VIN's will not show until someone registers and selects to share.
