Rear "968" numbers
#1

I am sure this must have been discussed over the years, but I am curious why Porsche would put black numbers on the rear of the black car? I would like to survey other owners of black 968's to hear if you removed them. I guess the same is true for a dark blue car. Anyone ever paint their numbers a different color, like silver?

Thanks, Steve

Personally, I like the black numbers on my black cab. If the numbers were a different color and, therefore, stood out, I'd have removed them. I go for the "understated" look. However, if a mod I want to do works out, the numbers will permanently disappear - I want to put the third brake light in that location, removing it from the trunk lid.

And then there are those of us that go for the "Bling" factor... maybe... not sure yet!

As covered in a recent thread, the different colored numerals are available from Jager Engineering; nice folks.

i actually had the lower part of my 9 break off during when I washed the car last time and was looking into getting new numbers...still black. I like the look.

The dealership wants $90 I think though to order them and install for me...it is going to wait.

As the saying goes, "Different strokes for different folks". Certainly there's no "right" or "wrong". (Unless, of course, you don't like what I like... )

That's strange, my black cab has silver numbers (OEM as far as I know). But I have the chrome Jagers enroute as I type.

Steve, go for the chrome numbers from Jager Engineering (www.jageng.com) they look great, the price is right and you get to talk with Monique - what else could you ask for? Good luck, Bob Blackwell.

The previous owner had put these brushed nickel numbers on as well as laser-cut Porsche lettering on the back. I kinda like it.

Please excuse the roof-mounted track wheels and tires, only clear pic of the back that I have

Me too!

What is that tape or what?

Thanks for all the replies, pictures, and ideas. I am so afraid to change anything on the car. I did put some new black numbers on and I was pleasantly surprised how much better I felt when I saw the new numbers. I look forward to seeing more options when I see lots of you in Hershey. I really hope a lot of people will make the trip!

Not sure. He explained that they were laser-cut letters he ordered specifically for this. They are silver to match the numbers. Appear to be self-adhesive vinyl and have proven to be quite durable.
