Air bag reset tool /OBD I reader
#1

I don't know if anyone is aware of this solution but here is my story. I removed my steering wheel to work on the gauge cluster, I was having trouble with the temp gauge and I put some LEDs in to beef up the cluster lighting. Well.. I turned the key on with the steering wheel off and the SRS controller registered a fault. Little did I know that just hooking the air bag back up would not clear the att. light in my face. I sooned learned that I would have to clear the codes before the light would go off even though the problem had been corrected. So I did some research and came up with four solutions, take it somewhere, buy a "hammer" or Durametric or a Bergvill OBD-T. I don't know if anyone has heard of Tore Bergvill but he makes an OBDI interface tool for the 964/993 that will work on a 968 with limits. I emailed him and he said that it would clear the SRS codes as the systems were the same. He makes the interface, the software (Windows) is free, some Rennlisters wrote it. I bought the setup $85 + the 19 pin cord $30 got the software loaded and I was able to see and clear the airbag codes and the DME engine codes. The DME portion of the software only has some of the parameters the the 968 but it will show some live data has It also will show the code number and it will clear it. The windows based software sucks but with some messing around I got it to work. I wish someone would write the software for the 968! Also the interface diagrams are included with the software download so you could make the interface yourself. Anyway for the money I thought it was worth it. http://www.bergvillfx.com/products.html

there have been other gadgets out there, but none of them have worked on the 968. this is the first one i've heard of that works besides the durametric or hammer. cool.

Nice. I got the PIWIS cable working from the other thread with Marco's instructions on how to chop up the adapter cable from Hong Kong.

The adapter cable is a joke, or seems like one to me. I can't imagine it works with anything considering which pins it connects as shipped. Rewiring it is pretty annoying. IF I was going to do it again I'd use some test pins wired to a spare female OBDII

I was able to reset the airbag warning, although I have not reconnected my idiot light signal to check. I also reset a <acronym title='mass air flow'>MAF</acronym> code i picked up when I was spraying some cleaner into my IAC and had the car running (badly) with the IAC hose off.

Other thread, I'll update it in a bit.

@Joes

Does this Bergville tool plug into a laptop?

And (please forgive me for asking this) Where is the OBD 1 plug on the 968?

I am trying to clear an airbag warning light without taking it to the shop if I dont have to.

Thanks

Paul

Yes it will plug into the laptop but I had trouble trying to get it to the correct "port". The connector is in the passengers foot well up high. Contact http://www.bergvillfx.com/products.html he is a member on this site as well.

Hi Joes,

I have got the Bergvill OBD and adapter cables as well. I did not experience any problems installing and configuring the SW on the available COM port. I have a question regarding parameter configuration file, though.The free Scantool SW (that you mentioned in your post) has two configuration files, one for 993 and the second for the 964 model. Do you remember what model configuration file worked for you when using on 968?

Thanks.
