I noticed one of my headlamps is just a little higher than the other and was wondering what would be involved in adjusting it down and over a bit to get it centered in the fender opening.



Can anyone tell me how to do this? Do I need to remove the bumper cover to do this? Some of the adjusting bolts seem very hard to get to.

There is a hole at the dead centre top of the headlight bucket and, if you look down inside with a flashlight, you will see a toothed cog. Using a narrow flat blade screwdriver you can turn this toothed cog that will either lower or raise the headlight assembly in the bucket. On mine, however, something had slipped a bit out of position so I removed the plastic ring around the headlight (you may need to pull the D-ring under the hood beside the light assembly to allow the headlamp bucket to slide forward more) and then simply adjust the light with everything in full view. It took about 2 minutes. Be careful when removing the plastic ring around the headlight - they can crack easily (don't ask how I know, but maybe I should have allowed 3 minutes). This is also a good opportunity to lubricate the entire mechanism inside the bucket as it will all be totally visible when the outer ring is removed.

These observations are when the headlamps are down? If yes, then are they aimed properly to light the road when up? If both answers are yes, then you will need to shim the whole headlamp tray down and over to fit the opening. It sounds like there has been some bodywork that may not have been done properly in the past. The geometry of the whole mechanism is very complicated. You might need to remove the Bumper cover to get the best access.
