I just replaced my PS rack and motor mounts and have a concern.
On the driver's side, there's a hefty steel part (PET calls it the Engine Carrier) that runs from the block to the motor mount. About 4" inboard from that is the U-joint at the top of the PS rack. On my car the AC hose that runs from the compressor back to the firewall is routed between the engine carrier and the U-joint, and the U-joint rubs the hose. There's room on the outboard side of the engine carrier for this hose, and I'm wondering if that's where it's supposed to be routed. I recently had this hose replaced, and my mechanic had one fabricated at a local hydraulic shop; I suspect it was a bit too long and he had to route it incorrectly to get it to fit. I know I didn't reposition it when I replaced the motor mount; the hose isn't long enough for me to have done that w/o disconnecting it.
I might have room to loosen the connector at the compressor and rotate it down enough to get the U-joint to clear the hose, but I'll lose all my refrigerant.
Or is everybody's car assembled this way?
