A Wrong...
#1

Sorry all but I have to blow off some steam!

I read an article in the local Colorado Springs Newspaper, The Gazette, about a kid in Spencer High School in Columbus Georgia that received a cell phone call from his Mother while walking down a hall in the school. Not a big deal, but, it was his Mother who was deployed to Irag in Decenber and they had not heard from her for over a month! Well it appears that a Teacher demanded that he turn the phone off, he refused and explained it was his Mother from Irag, the Teacher grabbed the phone away and the connection was lost. The student was then suspended from school for ten days. This really struck me as wrong! I wrote an email to the Principal of the school. If others would be compelled to write an opinion to this Principal or district I would appreciate the effort, I am posting this as many places as I can to try and let these people know that they are WRONG...

If the Moderators want to delete this that is fine, I understand, but, I just have to take up a cause every now and then to assure myself that I care about people...

The version of the story I read on this was that the school has a policy against any cell phone use during school hours. When the teacher noticed the kid was on the phone, she asked him to get off, and he immediately became belligerent and started cursing at the teacher, saying something to the effect of "F off, its my mom and she's in Iraq." Later the school came out and said while they fully understand about the kids mom being in Iraq, the problem was his attitude and reaction towards the teacher and others after the fact. And that they could have enacted a much harsher punishment, but chose not to because they were trying to be sensitive to the fact that the kid already has enough hardship in his life with his mom being gone.

I'm not saying this is really what happened or taking a side. Just saying, the story I read didn't frame the kid in a very good light.
