Hi Folks,
On the way to Detail day west, we were stopped at the light after exiting the freeway. Then turned left, very slow speed, and suddenly the car started shuddering quite violently. Lasted maybe a second, no more than two. It was almost as if the ABS has lost it's mind or the Tip couldn't decide what to do. I immediately threw the car in neutral, we, were on a slight downhill, so I turned the ignition off (steering still working) and we coasted to the median. Lowered blood pressure, then started the engine, all vital signs were good, looked underneath, nothing in sight, slowly placed in neutral, then in drive. All was well from there, drove another 100 miles, no problem, no symptoms. Drove yesterday around town, no problem. Only other thing that day was very hot drive up the freeway, but that is not unusual or this car. Fluids are fine.
I don't think it was the engine, it was not like a miss, but was much more forceful or violent, felt much more like a drivetrain or brake issue. Any ideas? Thanks!

Something similar happen to me. While driving into work I came upon some slow moving traffic, I had the clutch in as I just pulled out of 3rd. As I slowed down I saw an opening in the left lane put it in 3rd and hit the gas. DOH! THe car shuddered very hard then cut off. I restarted the engine and drove up to the next light and as I slowed down the car wouldnt idle smooth. Felt like the engine was trying to jump put. When I pulled into my garage at work I found the problem. A hose had came loose, a vacuum line I believe. I could point it out if I had a diagram of the engine.
I love my 968 for what it is & don't hate it for what it isn't!

<{POST_SNAPBACK}><!--quotec-->when is the last time the MAF was cleaned?<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->
MAF cleaned: don't know, easily 4 years ago or more. So, dumb question (I should look at it anyway), do we have a flapper MAF? I assume it isn't hot wire?
Also wanted to add: this was a pulsing shudder, several times a second, not a one shot. I could be wrong, it is hard to analyze the behavior, but it didn't feel like the engine, when I put it in neutral it purred just fine. I felt more like a binding effect of some type that made the car shake. It was during very slow acceleration, maybe 2 seconds after a full stop.

My car has done that a few times since I got it (1-2 times a year), it feels like the trans (tiptronic) gets stuck in two gear at once coming to a stop but it never lasts long enough to diagnose (no codes, at least not yet).

Sounds like a Tip thing to me. I don't know enough about the tip to give advice due to never having had one.

Rick, thanks for confirming the basic symptom. Wow, it sounds little scary, not sure what else I can say about it. I sure don't know enough about the tip internals to consider what could be amiss. It is a very complex system, I do worry sometimes that with the ATF going through the radiator (adjacent chamber) that sometimes it gets too hot or something like that.
Maybe as flash said, if there are no lingering symptoms, the we just move on and don't worry about it.
