A handsome wheel. Personally, though, I opted for the standard 996 wheel as I felt is was more "fitting" to the car as a primarily street, rather than track, car. Also, I wanted to retain the airbag.

That is the only thing holding me back (ever so slightly I might add) right now- the airbag.

It is a very nice wheel and I think it has a better presence when compared to the 968 CS wheel. It looks more "fitting" in my opinion.

I wonder - has anyone that's converted to a non-airbag wheel notified their insurance company of the fact that there is no longer a driver's side airbag? I imagine there are insurance rate implications, but I have no idea of the impact.

It doesn't look like it is, it doesn't seem to have "airbag" anyplace on it, and I'd hate to get hit in the face with that metal horn button center section (although, if that's the price of survival, it's probably an acceptable tradeoff).

i'm not sure all airbag wheels say "airbag" on them anymore - also, they flip on a hinge of sorts a lot now, so the button isn't an issue - for example, while it does say "airbag" on it, the one in the M3 has a big button in the center

No airbag. The piece in the middle is just one big horn pad. Pretty horn pad I might add!

I'm sure the insurance companies would want to know there is no longer a driver's side airbag present.....

While I would much prefer an airbag wheel simply due to the statics showing the benefits, I'm pretty sure this wheel is going in my car. Heck, I drove a 1966 Mustang without an airbag, at perhaps the most dangerous time during my life (first car- 17yrs old). I know I can't control the actions of other vehicles around me, but I am a very safe driver (knock on wood). So I feel I will be okay (I know- false sense of security!).

From a mechanical standpoint, this is no different, FWIW, than putting on the 968 CS wheel.

I love the wheel too but chereish the airbag more. I would like my nose in the middle of my face after a fender bender Mind you if I have a 1st gen airbag my nose may be repositioned slightly!

that was exactly my thought too - at this age, they aren't guaranteed to work anyway, and are likely to be more harm than good

This is one of the very few directives from "the boss"...must have airbags.

She will not even ride in my Miata because it doesn't have passenger side air bag. (Amazing what surviving a highway speed head-on will do for your attitude)

I'd rather walk away injured but alive...

that's exactly why i have harnesses - i feel a LOT safer with those - having totaled WAY too many cars, including flipping 3 times at 130mph, and also been smacked by airbags, my experience has been that i fared much better with the harnesses

but i get it, and i wouldn't let ayn have a car without airbags either

Yes, the tribe has spoken... The results are in... The fat lady has sung... The check, as they say, is in the mail...

So, what size resistor do I need for the airbag connector? 1/4W or 1/2W?

Pat may be the wheel whore, but I am determined to be the steering wheel whore!

if this wheel is like the 968 Tequipement (Clubsport) wheel, you will need a connector for the horn as well. Cant help on the resistor. Pete installed the resistor for me and i never asked what size it was.

The horn swith/connector is part #: 928-652-104-00
Sunset sells them for $19.25

The steering wheel looks great btw.

Where's that damn "thumbs up" emoticon when you need it?

Hi, my name is Jim, and, I'm a whore....

Note to Admins: when can have more emoticons??!!!

I should be OK with the horn connector- I might be able to cobble something together.... I'll ask Pete about the resistor.
