968.net
#41

yeah - that guy is just a windbag - he's obviously not a happy guy, and definitely has issues he'll have to take up with his shrink - ignore him - most people do - anybody who knows about him knows better

on the brighter side, the new site has definitely pushed more traffic here - i am seeing quite a few new registrations, and a LOT of old users returning, most of them who were old .net guys

i think .net will be a great additional introduction point, and a good place for us to contact people - it's "forums lite" - when they want real information, of course they will all come here - this is and always will be "the library"

it's kind of like the generic chain restaurant bar - you go there when you are new in town because it's a "safe bet", but when you really want to find a cool place, you seek out the one that the locals go to

don't be fooled by google popularity - we could easily be top dog there - but, in order to keep out spammers and miscreants, we deliberately do not allow the bots to search beyond the index page, which limits our google ranking, but who cares? those who are real enthusiasts will always end up here - i noticed they already had their first drug spammer - we haven't had one of those get through our process in almost 2 years

the philosophy here has always been that we would rather have a smaller group of friends than just a big open train wreck where any yahoo can blather - we leave that to other sites

i think ray should be commended for attempting to create a meeting place, particularly in light of the history - i think it will serve us very well and bring more people to us - it already is doing exactly that

The total production of 968 was slightly more than 10k, anyhow for me 968forums is the legitimate successor of former (RIP) 968.net.

In general I would not condemn nor criticize any new 968 site - I just questioning the sense of having one more.

SHa-JR968, when i quoted #'s...they were North American production #'s. The total amount of north american 968's is under 5K, slightly oover 5K for the E30 M3, & 9,999 NSX's sold in N.A. All the forums i refered too are also North American Forums. (968forums.com/968.net/rennlist.com for the 968, S14.net for the M3 & NSXPrime.com for the NSX).

OK, didn't get the point.

But even 10k all over the world is relative low production record.

rxter- thanks for that reply. I was wondering if everyone had lost their sense of humor. BTW: just finished reading Stephen Hawking's <i>"An Illustrated Brief History of Time"</i>. Great read. Funny though, I don't remember seeing the quote about the 968 being infinitely dense. I'll just have to read it again!

Hey Scott, I tried really hard to find a graph of world's colliding, there's some heavy math involved...

I don't think the reference to infinitely dense is about the car in particular...there are a few members of the community however that would be hard to get a reading...a number reaching infinity.

I've strolled over to .net, there are some things that I like and some features that I think could be better. No harm, no foul. So far, with a single notable exception, things seem calm and friendly. If Ray had done this years ago then maybe things would have been different. I'm happy here. We have a long history of stable ownership by multiple partners who are dedicated to the survival of the resources available to the whole world. This site passed to us from Eric and we hold it in stewardship for the next generation of owners who we hope will care for the data as much as we do. I have said a number of times, this information should last for a hundred years (be careful what you write), I'm sure that it will survive us.

I don't think there is an either/or...No arm twisting here...we hold events because we enjoy meeting people and seeing their cars. Pete and Flash like making stuff, and you all like to come and chat or grab a piece of knowledge. We have seen a rise in postings and membership in the last month. It sure doesn't seem that anyone has abandoned this site to go "there". We have seen that on other sites over the years, and its happening now on the other, other site. We appreciate your loyalty and friendship, we will do everything we can to preserve the trust you put in us.

lol - has anybody really been watching?

while i wish the best for ray, it does not look good so far

there is basically one guy running around waving the banner for .net on all of the other sites (odd that he doesn't find that to be a problem, since any time we mentioned our site we got slammed by him) he is also responsible for about half the posts (the sound of one hand clapping?)

for somebody who constantly takes shots at us and our site, and claims they would never come here, they are sure focused on us - now they are posting my comments about .net on rl

i see they have already had their first pharmaceutical poster

i also see there is a spammer in full force there too

we have none of that - the entire reason is the amount of time and energy we spend filtering it out

eternal diligence is the price of liberty

by the way, .net has been good for us though - traffic is up, as are new registrations

so, no worries

I have no problem with multiple sites as long as there is some point of differentiation. While this site is in the "must view daily" category, I also wander over to 968UK because it has a slightly different flavour and its interesting to see what the brits are up to. I was however disappointed to see some anti-"forums" comments at one stage over there...
I've signed up to .net but the RSS feed is a bit slow. Happy to wait and see but its not going to replace Forums.

well, it didn't take long before things took a turn south - already there is a battle brewing, and guess who is in the center of it again

truly sad

i had hoped that the site would be a good way for us to reconnect with some who had otherwise not had the opportunity to enjoy this site - unfortunately if the site is to be inundated with the rantings of that one individual, it will likely not get nearly as much traffic as it could - unlike this site, which has the library and all of the members and other content to offset my own rantings, the other one will likely never get a chance before people leave in disgust

Just let it go. If stuff happens there, so be it. If you want to bring it up or comment on it, do it there- you're registered.

Constantly pointing out the "inevitable" while espousing the peceived virtues of its existence is exhausting. Take the high road and ignore it.

"should i close this thread?"

From someone who has no past history with regards to the topic in this thread, I read and shake my head wondering why so much energy is being wasted. I like the informative technical portions of 968Forums (there is a ton of good stuff to be learned here) AND the upbeat casual portions (I enjoy having an outburst of laughter - even though my wife looks over from her computer and shakes her head wondering what has gone wrong with me!) . <b>
I would like to see the thread terminated </b>and everyones energy refocused on assisting each other, be it technical or casual.

If we close the thread then we become Forums Terrorists. Let's just let .net be there and forums be here...

Jake, can't wait to see you in PA next year...
