First extended summer drive with the cab and found that I might need asbestos socks. Stop and go driving in the city the footwell got really hot, only a little better on the highway. Not going to run the a/c with the top down - any thoughts?

It's probably an issue with the heater control flap clip which is down in the footwell. This site has a DIY on heater fixes. I usually drive with the vent's in the defrost position to keep the heat away from me.
