Panic management
#1

My 94 Coupe had an "incident" (see Recommendations...SOCAL in Engine forum) Which took the car from running well to fluctuating and low oil pressures, going rough, and a bail off the freeway to ride the flatbed of ignominy home. Thank you all for your suggestions on repair shops, but while screwing up the financial courage to take it in I had strong cause to move the car (crew coming to take a tree down). After sweating for a hour trying to push it around on the gravel driveway it was obvious I would have to break a rule and start it.

The battery was almost completely flat. Oil pressure was up almost to normal.

Its the first time thats happened in years. Then I remembered that the engine just barely cranked when i had to move it to position for the flatbed. Now, there is no doubt that the oil pan is coming off Real Soon, but my training rebels at the notion of two simultaneous failures (low voltage AND some form of bearing failure). I see that the oil pressure sender is of course electrical, and several of the symptoms I saw could have been associated with low voltage, sooo.. Is there a chance that electrical problems could make the oil pressure indication go wonky? Is there a prayer that I won't have to spend another $5K ? All I want is hope..

I have no clue about how many different symptoms electrical related problems can cause in our cars, but I can tell you that on my mercedes

minor electrical issues ( from low battery, to a little moisture on wires, to relatively inexpensive sensors starting to go bad ) can manifest themselves

as the most disastrous symptoms you could imagine.

good luck, and i truly hope it turns out to be a typical porsche gremlin which will not be an expensive fix
