968 Celebration in 2007?
#21

Paul - are you in Toronto? I go there about every three weeks. Good to know some of the other 968 owners in Canada.

I have to weigh in for some southern exposure for a gathering. IIRC all previous events have been north of the Mason-Dixon Line. Atlanta or Birmingham would be a central spot for a 9 state meet. Do we have any organizers up that way?

Now Central Florida is nice, in the winter. Lot's of "attractions" flat straight roads, Sebring, and alligators. If there is a hue and cry to rush down here, I am now a retired guy and could be drafted to help organize.

Hey Guys and Gals,

Sorry, but I have been traveling and then got sick so I have been off the website for a while.

I have had a number of requests to again host the 968 Celebration in Hershey during the Central Pa Swap Meet (the largest Porsche event in the USA). I am currently negotiating with the Hotel for adequate rooms but it looks good. The event would be on Friday, April 27 and Saturday, April 28th (Swap Meet). For the 120 968 owners who attended the event during 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004 the main draws are:

- Central Pa Swap Meet will have everything Porsche that you could hope to find in one spot

- We have lots of atttractions for family members that might come with you

- Hotel accomodations are first class at reasonable rates

So, no announcement today but mark your calendars. If you have never seen 60 968s parked next to each other or been in a Caravan with 60, this is your event. Cosimo is correct that we get rain but my records show that out of the 8 days of events, we had to stop the event one day. Otherwise, it was wipe the car off after the drizzle and proceed. I am grateful that they moved the Swap Meet into the last weekend since the rain is more prevalent in the 3rd weekend where they have had it previously.

However, there is no problem with having other 968 Celebrations in other parts of the country during 2007. If you are a PCA member, a PCA 968 Register member and are coordinating your event with your local PCA

Region, your event is eligible to receive an award, which can be used for plaques, etc. Also, you will receive support from your Region this way.

Let the 968 Celebrations begin!

Don Hassenbein

968 Register Advocate

Chairperson for the 2001-2004 Celebration events

P.S. For those PCA 968 Register Members who are reading this, Jeff Coe, Ron Salvador and I have been busy preparing new stuff for the members. We just need a little more time before everything is ready. We should be ready in January!

Don,

This is absolutely terrific news that you would consider making so a huge effort. I was not fortunate enough to attend any of the previous celebrations that you organized, but they are legend.

To the others who have posted their interest in holding other events. It would be great to see simultaltaneous events held around the country. While PCA support might be helpful, the decision to hold an event, should not hinge on PCA support. My little experience in gathering as many 968s as possible together, whether 6 cars or 60, has been a complete pleasure. I again offer support to anyone that wants to organize an event.

Cheers to Don, Happy Holidays and a Happy, Healthy new year,

Jay

You could count me in from Nova Scotia PROVIDED it isn't snowing when I leave. It's a bit of a drive but driving is fun.

Okay! Maybe I'll make the trip, too. Thanks Don! I drove the longest distance the last time. Someone else needs to take that award this time. I think my mileage was 780 miles.

Kim,

Yes I live in Toronto - Oakville actually, but close enough. Let me know the next time your in town and perhaps we can hook up for a pint or 2. Its tough to say how many of us there are around here; I'd guess 15 or so. Only a few turn up at the annual show every year. Regarding Hershey, I've already got it marked on the calender. Paul

I went to the last two that Don organized. I can honestly say that they were

so well organized, and more importantly, a BLAST! I cannot wait for the next!!

If some of you just can't make the trip in your '68, take a boat, train, or plane..

My vote is for Hershey, unless someone wants to come to Connecticut! It is cool to see other Porsches at the swap meet and it is good to raise 968 awareness with our strong presence there - perhaps we can generate some tuner interest in our beloved 968s, get magazine coverage, etc.

I wouldn't mind an autocross the day before/after!

It is a long drive for me, but I've been to two in Hershey and they were great. Don does a fine job putting together these events.

Has anyone ever done a geographical role call? It might help to see where everone is located.

Maybe the ideal location or locations would be obvious based on where everyone lives.

Maybe PA ends up being the best spot because most of the people are close.

I think the NE is the winner with the number of 968's. I think we only average about 2 or 3 per state in the SE. I'd still like to see something in the SE even if we only get a few cars together. In addition to the Hershey event of course.

Hi Rick,

Somewhere on here is a link to a Google Earth map that allows you to place your vehicle on the map (it is accurate enough to find your driveway).

Don Hassenbein who is the founder of the 968 celebration and the host of numbers1 through 4 and now 7 lives near Hershey and he has decided to tie the event to the Porsche Swap Meet. I was not at 1 - 4 but from everything I've heard they are not to be missed under any circumstances!

Other regional events occur throughout the year and are genarally posted here, or, plan your own event, there are a fair number owners in the mid-south area.

Regards,

Jay
