968 Celebration DC
#21

Anchorman, you are right about DEs being a logistics problem and it certainly isn't for everyone. Just thinking out loud. ALMS races would be good but location away from DC would be a problem for me. Maybe someone closer to an ALMS event could step up to chair the event. What amazes me is the number of "reads' on this site and 968.net so there seems to be interest but no commitment to attend.

First off let me say Thank You for myself and friend Bobby for allowing us to attend even though I did not bring a car. I have been active in many PCA events, I maintain the US CARRERA Registry for PCA national, I am a PCA national drivers ed instructor, a PCA F stock 968 racer, and have learned a few things over the years. A succesful event has to be judged by quality not quantity, we all have attended events with a lot of people but no fun and too much attitude. I attended the 968 celebration this year to get some idea of the kind of event this would be, and it is an example of how to best put on a Porsche event, well organized, well planned and best of all attended by true Porsche entusisits. I would second any attempt to have next years event at an ALMS race at Road Atlanta. I would also throw out the 12hrs of Sebring in March or the PCA club race at Sebring in February. Both events are well attended and perhaps an excuse for a Florida vacation during that time of year might draw.

In closing let me say that next year I WILL bring a car and look forward to the next 968 Celebration.

Finally made it back to New Mexico from the D.C. Celebration......14 days on the road combining Porsche 968 Celebration with visiting relatives in many different states took its toll on my wife and I. Too much driving in too little time! We had a great time and echo the kudos to Cosimo and Randi, sure there could have been something done different, but this was fun. "old blue" ran like a fine swiss watch, no problems and averaged 25/26 mpg while running 75 - 80 mph. Not too bad with a "power chip" and 18 inch wheels installed. I missed having the Tech. Quiz and was disappointed there was no "longest distance driven" award.....but really enjoyed the Tech Sessions on Motec engine management and all the performance enhancements offered by Pete at RS Barn. Nothing beats seeing all of those beautiful 968s all lined up tho. Looking forward to the next 968 Gathering in Colorado this August. Good job! Bob Blackwell.

We had a terrific time, and thought the juxtaposition with Parade was great. It's the main reason we were there, having to drive 3500 miles rt anyway, it was a no-brainer.

Was great seeing everyone. What a great bunch 968ers are.

Check out our photos from the Celebration and Parade at:

Shameless plug - c'mon out to our 4th Annual Rocky Mountain 968 Gathering Aug 19-21. Driving tour, rafting, car show, and great company.
