Thanks, all. Anchorman, thanks for the book suggestion. Now for an update to the story.
Picked up the car in a snow storm. The new tires worked just like ice skates. The snow let up and I made the twelve hour drive home without incident. While checking out my new acquisition in my brother-in-laws garage, I learned of a unique problem. The car is equipped with an after-market remote lock and alarm. The only issue is that the doors lock and the alarm arms momentarily after closing the doors, without using the remote. You can see this one coming, I'll bet.
On Monday, upon filling with gas and trying to close the fuel filler pop-up cover on the fender, I broke the latch that holds and releses it. Bummer. No problemo. I run right down to Hendrick Porsche (Hendrick of NASCAR, Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon fame) and order my part. It arrived today and it took only minutes to fix the little sucker. Yes, in case you're wondering, I was careful to instruct the service manager to be careful and not leave the key in the car because the locking mechanism has a mind of its own and WILL lock without action on the part of the driver or other interested party. Now I know you can see it coming.
Yes, they locked the key in the car. All attempts to open it failed. They've ordered an extra key by VIN to be shipped overnight and will open the car AND disconnect the >@#&%? remote lock tomorrow. I drove home in a new Cayman. Nice car, by the way.
