Well, all rightie, then. We're off to a good start.

Anchorman, NC allows up to 8 numbers, letters, spaces or characters, so there is some flexibility. What book was that?

Flash, I was looking for something creative but I'm not creative enough to pull it off. After all, the plate on my Mustang GT is PONY.

Keep them coming, gang.

8? wow - cool - that would allow "AIRCOOLD" (lol - or "OILCOOLD")

XLESS

And if I had 8 characters to choose from: ARTOFSPD

Side note: I once saw a woman driving a Corvette in VA and plates read "WAS HIS". For some reason it made me mad....
Hey Duckman,

Sorry to hear about your intention to sell your 968 but that 993 is beautiful!

I would recommend you keep it simple and use:

"HOT993"

"MY993"

"BEST993"

Let us know when you sell your 968 and who the new owner is. Good luck with the P car! See you in the future.

Don
Hey Don good to see you on site. You mean "HOT 993" like my "HOT968"

Ginger,

I remember your plate now from the Celebrations.

Yeah, I am "out of pocket" for a while but will participate more in the future.

Hope to see and Charlie in Hershey again in April.

Thanks, all. Anchorman, thanks for the book suggestion. Now for an update to the story.

Picked up the car in a snow storm. The new tires worked just like ice skates. The snow let up and I made the twelve hour drive home without incident. While checking out my new acquisition in my brother-in-laws garage, I learned of a unique problem. The car is equipped with an after-market remote lock and alarm. The only issue is that the doors lock and the alarm arms momentarily after closing the doors, without using the remote. You can see this one coming, I'll bet.

On Monday, upon filling with gas and trying to close the fuel filler pop-up cover on the fender, I broke the latch that holds and releses it. Bummer. No problemo. I run right down to Hendrick Porsche (Hendrick of NASCAR, Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon fame) and order my part. It arrived today and it took only minutes to fix the little sucker. Yes, in case you're wondering, I was careful to instruct the service manager to be careful and not leave the key in the car because the locking mechanism has a mind of its own and WILL lock without action on the part of the driver or other interested party. Now I know you can see it coming.

Yes, they locked the key in the car. All attempts to open it failed. They've ordered an extra key by VIN to be shipped overnight and will open the car AND disconnect the >@#&%? remote lock tomorrow. I drove home in a new Cayman. Nice car, by the way.

That must be the dreaded immobilizer that the 993 guys lament about over on the Rennlist 993 board!

1. You apparently got home safely - that's the first important accomplishment.

2. Hopefully you like the 993 more than the Cayman - that would be the second important accomplishment. (A couple of times, I had a Cayman as a loaner, and it never tempted me to switch from the 968.)

3. Hopefully, the "auto locks" will be the worst tale you have to tell.

4. ENJOY!!!

5. Bring it to Hershey.

Yes, I arrived home safe and sound. It's about a 12 hour drive but I had books on tape on my iPod, so I was ready.

I actually liked the Cayman. It some respects it reminded me of my 968. I think I might have liked a Cayman S a lot. Maybe next time.

As for Hershey, I've been thinking of coming and driving my 968. Hey, I still have it, so why not enjoy it. Also, I could put a for sale sign on it and see what happens.

Saw your ad on ebay. The car looks very nice, and fast. Need more pics though. Good luck. I looked into selling my Mazda about 3 months ago and again yesterday - dropped by about 20% in those 3 months. Looks like the ask price of higher mileage 968s is dropping too. The sellers with cars under 30K seem to be holding their ask price. Tough market out there... Maybe Barak needs a new set of wheels.
